					</table><p>For energy-intensive industries, the shift to solar is no longer being driven by sustainability targets alone. From food processing units to manufacturing plants, businesses are increasingly adopting captive rooftop solar systems as a practical way to protect margins, stabilize energy costs, and reduce dependence on conventional grid power.</p>
<p>The growing adoption reflects a broader shift in how industries no longer view energy as merely a utility cost but as a strategic business lever.</p>
<p>In line with this trend, cocoa and food-processing company <a href="https://dpchocolates.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DP Cocoa</a> recently commissioned a 1.2-MW rooftop solar project in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. The project is expected to reduce the company’s annual electricity expenses by approximately ₹11.2 million (~$117,108).</p>
<p>The company consumes around 8.6 million units of electricity annually. The rooftop solar project is expected to generate approximately 1.79 million units each year, meeting nearly 21% of the company’s annual power requirement.</p>
<p>The project was commissioned recently. Its operational performance and actual electricity bill reductions are yet to be assessed.</p>
<p>The project was executed by Maharashtra-based renewable energy solutions provider <a href="https://artha.energy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Artha Energy Resources</a>. The rooftop system has been installed across multiple roof structures at DP Cocoa’s facility.</p>
<p>The solar installation uses 615 Wp TOPCON bifacial solar modules. Of the total installed capacity, 422 kW has been mounted on reinforced cement concrete (RCC) roofs, while 838 kW has been installed on tin shed structures.</p>
<p>Founder and Managing Partner Animesh Damani said, “The project required a customized system design because the facility had different roof types, varying structural load capacities, and multiple roof orientations. The engineering and execution processes were planned separately for the RCC and tin shed sections to accommodate these technical conditions.”</p>
<p>According to Damani, the project also faced procedural and regulatory challenges during implementation.</p>
<p>“Initially, the client operated with two separate DISCOM connections, which were later merged into a single connection. The merger process took time, delaying the issuance of charging permission for the solar project,” he said.</p>
<p>The company siad that in Andhra Pradesh, coordination processes with government authorities begin only after project installation, rather than running simultaneously with execution, which added to the timeline.</p>
<p>Apart from financial savings, DP Cocoa stated that carbon neutrality was also a factor in the decision to adopt solar power.  DP The company is also considering expanding its solar capacity as part of its long-term energy management strategy.</p>
<p>Earlier this year, Artha Energy Resources <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/pidilite-industries-leverages-rooftop-solar-to-save-on-power-bills" target="_blank" rel="noopener">installed</a> a 1,378.7 kW rooftop solar system for Pidilite Industries.</p>

					</table><p>India’s industrial sector is increasingly adopting rooftop solar to offset rising electricity costs and improve energy efficiency within existing infrastructure constraints. Large manufacturing units, in particular, are leveraging distributed solar systems across factory rooftops to optimize available space while maintaining uninterrupted operations.</p>
<p>Chemicals manufacturer, <a title="https://www.pidilite.com/" href="https://www.pidilite.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pidilite Industries</a>, known for products such as adhesives, sealants, and construction chemicals, has installed a rooftop solar system with a total capacity of 1,378.7 kW across its manufacturing facilities in Himachal Pradesh. The installation spans five sub-factories and 15 rooftops with varying structural conditions, orientations, and load-bearing capacities.</p>
<p>The rooftop systems were commissioned in a staggered manner from November 2025 to January 2026. Within the first three of operation, the system generated approximately 1.3 million units of electricity, resulting in savings of ₹1.41 million (~$14,995) for Pidilite.</p>
<p>The project was designed to maximize generation within the available rooftop space and capital expenditure.</p>
<p>Pidilite Industries manufactures consumer and industrial products catering to sectors like construction, woodworking, packaging, and crafts.</p>
<p>Maharashtra-based renewable energy solutions provider <a href="https://artha.energy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Artha Energy Resources</a> executed the project. The system uses Navitas 590 W non-DCR n-type TOPCon solar modules.</p>
<p>Artha Energy customized the system design to address multiple roof types and industrial conditions. Founder and Managing Partner Animesh Damani said, “We conducted detailed 3D shading analysis and structural stability assessments for each rooftop before finalizing the layout, thereby preventing potential leakage issues and maintaining structural integrity.”</p>
<p>The company deployed different mounting systems based on roof specifications, including non-penetrative ballasted structures for RCC roofs and specialized clamps for metal sheet roofing. This approach ensured that installations did not require drilling.</p>
<p>The system design incorporates multiple string inverters with independent maximum power point tracking. This configuration allows each section to operate independently, ensuring that lower performance in one area does not affect overall generation.</p>
<p>The modular design also enables the system to work around existing structures such as vents and chimneys without affecting performance.</p>
<p>Damani said, “Execution challenges were significant due to the facility’s operational nature. Installation activities had to be carried out without disrupting the plant’s continuous production schedule.”</p>
<p>The company said the non-penetrative design required lightweight and stable mounting solutions that could be installed without altering existing roof structures.</p>

Pidilite Industries Leverages Rooftop Solar to Save on Power Bills

					</table><p>Solar power adoption in India’s commercial and industrial (C&amp;I) sector is accelerating as companies seek to manage rising electricity costs, meet sustainability targets, and ensure long-term energy security.</p>
<p>One such company is <a href="https://automation.honeywell.com/us/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Honeywell Industrial Automation</a>, which has installed a 332.30 kW rooftop solar system at its facility in Dehradun. While the first post-solar electricity bill has not yet been generated, the company expects annual savings of ₹3.33 million (~$37,548).</p>
<p>Honeywell provides advanced solutions that help process industries operate more efficiently and safely. The company develops world-class sensor technologies, automation and control systems, and digital solutions that streamline industrial operations.</p>
<p>Honeywell’s total energy requirement at the facility is approximately 780 kW per day. Due to contractual demand limitations, the rooftop solar system capacity was capped at 332.30 kW, demonstrating the role of on-site solar in significantly offsetting grid power consumption for industrial units. The system includes Navitas 590 Wp TOPCon solar modules for this project, paired with two Sungrow 125 kW inverters.</p>
<p>Despite this restriction, the installation is expected to supply around 42.6% of the facility’s total energy needs. Honeywell’s annual energy charges are estimated at around ₹8 million (~$90,233) based on existing consumption patterns.</p>
<p>Maharashtra-based renewable energy solutions provider, <a href="https://artha.energy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Artha Energy Resources</a>, in partnership with <a href="https://www.blinfraprojects.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Blink-Infra Projects</a>, commissioned the project on November 27, 2025.</p>
<p>Animesh Damani, the Founder and Managing Partner of Artha Energy, said, “The project faced site-specific challenges due to the hilly terrain, including the requirement for manual earthing and heightened safety considerations. We deployed additional skilled manpower and worked closely with a safety-conscious client team to ensure compliance, safety, and timely execution.”</p>
<p>The company stated that its prior experience with rooftop solar projects across diverse geographies helped it address these challenges without delay. The initial coordination issues arose from multiple stakeholders involved in the rented infrastructure, but they were resolved during commissioning.</p>
<p>Artha Energy will provide maintenance and asset management services for 25 years, ensuring the system&#8217;s long-term performance and reliability.</p>
<p>The company noted a broader surge in solar adoption across the C&amp;I sector, driven by sustainability commitments, cost pressures, and supportive government policies.</p>
<p>To raise awareness among businesses about the benefits of transitioning to solar, Mercom India has been hosting nationwide ‘C&amp;I Clean Energy Meets’ that bring solar developers and companies intending to adopt clean energy sources under one roof.</p>

Honeywell Automation Cuts Power Costs with 332.3 kW Rooftop Solar System

<p>Here are some noteworthy cleantech announcements of the day from around the world:</p>
<p><strong>The board of directors of Surana Solar Limited has </strong><a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/eb4a08e9-53ea-4f20-96a3-75e6737aad92.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>approved</strong></a><strong> the proposal to set up a 200 MW cell and module facility with 210 mm size mono PERC cell and modules.</strong> The manufacturing facility is expected to be developed with a total outlay of ₹2 billion (~$26.98 million), for which the company is exploring fundraising options.</p>
<p><strong>First Solar announced that Swift Current Energy, a U.S.-based utility-scale solar developer, has </strong><a href="https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2022/01/13/2366451/0/en/Swift-Current-Energy-Selects-First-Solar-s-Thin-Film-PV-Technology-for-1-2GW-Order.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>ordered</strong></a><strong> First Solar’s 1.2 GW(DC) of advanced, ultra-low carbon thin-film solar photovoltaic (PV) modules.</strong> The company will deliver modules in 2023 and 2024. In addition, the company has invested $680 million to expand its solar modules manufacturing capacity by 3.3 GW annually. The facility is expected to be commissioned in the first half of 2023, and when fully operational, would scale the company’s Northwest Ohio footprint to a total annual capacity of 6 GW.</p>
<p><a href="https://artha.energy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Artha Energy Resources</strong></a><strong> launched RenewShare, a renewable energy investment platform that enables fractional ownership of renewable assets in India.</strong> The platform would cater to investors interested in diversifying their existing portfolio while being a part of the fast-growing renewable landscape in India. The platform, during its launch, already enlisted a special purpose vehicle with assets of ₹70 million (~$943,873) and an early investment commitment of ₹100 million (~$1.34 million) from investors, with renewable assets spread across four cities.</p>
<p><strong>Swaraj Green Power &amp; Fuel Limited announced its plans to set up the largest ethanol plant in Asia with a capacity of 1,100-kiloliters per day (KLPD) in Maharashtra in two stages.</strong> In the first stage, the company would build a capacity of 500 KLPD that will be enhanced to 1,100 KLPD in the second stage. The company has acquired the necessary permission to enhance its capacity in the near future. It would work with Praj Industries Limited as a technology partner for the proposed expansion of the project.</p>
<p><strong>The Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan and ACWA Power <a href="https://www.acwapower.com/news/hrh-saudi-minister-of-energy-the-president-of-azerbaijan-and-acwa-power-break-ground-on-sar-11-billion-wind-project-the-first-and-largest-foreign-investment-in-azerbaijans-renewable-power-sector/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">broke</a></strong><strong> the ground for 240 MW of wind power project with an investment of SAR 1.12 billion (~$300 million).</strong> The project represented the first and largest foreign investment made in the renewable energy sector of Azerbaijan to date. The project would contribute to the country’s goal to generate 30% of its energy through renewables. The 240 MW wind project is expected to provide around 3.7% of energy to the country’s total national grid capacity, powering 300,000 households while reducing 400,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.</p>
