TotalEnergies, a diversified multinational energy company, <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/totalenergies-sells-50-of-2-gw-solar-and-storage-portfolio-in-texas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the sale of 50% of a portfolio of 2 GW solar and battery energy storage projects in Texas to Apollo, a New York-based asset management firm. The transaction will provide the company $800 million in cash, with $550 million in equity and $250 million in shareholder loan refinancing. The portfolio consists of three solar projects with a total capacity of 1.7 GW and two battery storage projects with a total capacity of 300 MW.
Neoen, an independent renewable energy power producer, announced the <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/neoen-sells-renewable-energy-portfolio-to-hmc-capital-in-australia/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sale</a> of its renewable energy portfolio consisting of operating projects and development pipelines in Victoria, Australia, to HMC Capital, an alternative asset manager. The transaction amounts to AUD950 million (~$611.62 million) in enterprise value.
Granite Source Power, a renewable energy project developer, and its partner, New Energy Capital, an alternative asset manager, <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/granite-source-power-finalizes-sale-of-1-25-gw-energy-storage-projects/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the sale of 1,250 MW of standalone battery energy storage projects across ERCOT, SPP, and ISONE. The financial details of the transaction remained undisclosed. The projects have scheduled commercial operation dates ranging from 2025 to 2027. Each project was sold individually through separate purchase and sale agreements with various buyers.
Matrix Renewables, a global renewable energy company, <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/matrix-renewables-secures-financing-for-210-mw-stillhouse-solar-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> $376 million in financing for developing the 210 MWac Stillhouse solar project. Acadia Infrastructure provided preferred equity and separately facilitated Microsoft’s purchase of environmental attribute certificates. Additionally, MUFG, HSBC, ING, and BBVA provided $376 million in debt funding. The Stillhouse solar project, located in Bell County, Texas, includes a 15-year power purchase agreement with affiliates of Hyundai.
Mulilo, a South Africa-based renewable energy developer and independent power producer, <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/mulilo-secures-financing-for-75-mw-ukuqala-solar-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> financial closure for the 75 MWac (105 MWdc) Ukuqala solar project near De Aar in the Northern Cape, South Africa. Nedbank, SBSA, and ABSA provided the debt financing. In addition, Peppertree Capital, ENS, ABL, Bowmans, and Arup were involved in the transaction as advisors in various capacities. Financial details of the deal remained undisclosed.

Project Finance Brief: TotalEnergies Sells 50% of 2 GW Solar-Storage Portfolio in Texas

Hero Electric and the Mahindra Group <a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/092059cf-a900-4586-91e1-6a7a3cfebbcd.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> their collaboration intent as part of Hero&#8217;s growth and expansion plans to cater to the country&#8217;s ever-growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs). The strategic partnership would create multiple synergies to help drive adoption across the country. Mahindra would manufacture Hero Electric&#8217;s electric bikes at their Pithampur plant. With this collaboration and the expansion of its EV manufacturing facility, Hero would be able to meet its demand of manufacturing over 1 million EVs annually by 2022. The joint development effort would also be a key factor in developing the platform approach to help electrification of the Peugeot Motorcycles&#8217; portfolio.
Neoen, a France-based renewable energy developer, has <a href="https://neoen.com/en/news/2022/neoen-gives-go-ahead-on-412-mw-wind-farm-first-stage-of-its-goyder-renewables-zone-in-south-australia/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">launched</a> its flagship Goyder Renewables Zone project in South Australia. The notice to proceed was given to a consortium of GE Renewable Energy and Elecnor in December 2021 to develop a 412 MW wind farm called Goyder South Stage 1. The construction work for the project is expected to start in the second quarter of 2022. The wind farm will be operational in 2024. Goyder South project has received development approval for 1,200 MW of wind projects, 600 MW of solar projects, and 900 MW of battery storage capacity.
Blackstone Resources, a Switzerland-based battery storage company, <a href="https://www.pressebox.de/pressemitteilung/blackstone-resources-ag/blackstone-resources-acquires-property-for-5-gwh-production/boxid/1095683" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that it had acquired extensive land in Saxony, Germany, to increase the capacity of its battery facility up to 5 GWh. The company aims to increase its battery manufacturing capacity tenfold to 500 MWh in the first stage. The expansion is expected to be completed within the next 12 months.
Australian renewables company Maoneng has <a href="https://maoneng.co/news/mornington-peninsula-battery-project-one-step-closer-as-maoneng-receives-development-approval/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">received</a> development approval for its 240 MW/480 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project. The $190 million project is expected to be completed in mid-2023. The standalone BESS facility would be adjacent to AusNet’s existing Tyabb substation. It would draw and store energy from the grid during off-peak periods and dispatch it during peak hours, generating power to meet the power needs of around 40,000 households. The project would support the Victorian Government’s objective of improving regional electricity reliability in an area exposed to fluctuations in demand, primarily due to seasonal tourism.
Sun Exchange, a South Africa-based solar developer, <a href="https://thesunexchange.com/blog/nhimbe-fresh-goes-live" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> its 510 kWp/1MWh solar-plus-storage is live to meet the power needs of Nhimbe Fresh, a Zimbabwean export company. This is the first of a multiphase solar-plus-storage project that would provide the fresh produce grower and exporter with low-cost and reliable power and eliminate its reliance on the grid. The project would help Nhimbe Fresh cut energy-related costs by 60% while reducing over 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Daily News Wrap-Up: Hero Electric Partners with Mahindra to Boost its EV Manufacturing

Neoen, a France-based renewable energy company, has been <a href="https://www.neoen.com/var/fichiers/neoen-awarded-14-year-contract-for-100-mw-in-australian-capital-territory-renewables-auction.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">awarded</a> a 14-year contract to supply 100 MW of wind energy from its Goyder Renewables Zone located in South Australia. According to the agreement, the company will also build a 50 MW battery storage facility in Canberra. The clean energy will be supplied to the Australian Capital Territory from stage one of the Goyder wind project. The company is expected to commence the construction for stage one of the project in 2022.
Global energy giant Total has <a href="https://www.total.com/media/news/communiques/groupe-psa-and-total-create-automotive-cells-company-joint-venture-dedicated" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">signed</a> an agreement with a French automobile manufacturer Groupe PSA to form a joint venture firm called Automotive Cells Company. The company said that the new joint venture would be dedicated to manufactures batteries in Europe. The company already started the research and development center in Bordeaux and the pilot site in Nersac to develop new high-performance lithium-ion technologies. The new joint venture aims to ensure industrial independence in Europe for the production of batteries with an initial capacity of 8 GW, reaching a total capacity of 48 GW by 2030.
PowerCell Sweden <a href="https://www.powercell.se/en/newsroom/press-releases/detail/?releaseId=2E21A4195E74CA2B" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">announced</a> that it had signed an agreement with Soltech Group for the joint development of stationary energy solutions. The company said that the objective of the feasibility study is to examine if solar energy, in combination with hydrogen storage, can alleviate the company’s problem with grid capacity. The cooperation agreement aims to utilize the two companies’ expertise and products to offer stationary energy solutions based on a combination of solar energy and fuel cells. By using excess energy from solar panels to produce hydrogen, solar energy can be stored and converted back to electricity in a fuel cell when needed.
ABB India’s Nashik Factory <a href="https://new.abb.com/news/detail/67201/abb-indias-factory-the-first-in-nashik-industrial-area-to-be-awarded-the-prestigious-green-factory-building-certification-by-igbc" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">said</a> that the facility had been awarded the green factory building certification by the India Green Building Council (IGBC). The company said that it had taken several different initiatives such as in-house solar panel installations, tree plantation, and energy efficiency improvement projects to reduce the carbon footprints at its facility. The facility achieved 95.03% energy savings and reduced 345 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
