					</table><p><a href="https://www.greenh.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GreenH Electrolysis</a>, a joint venture between <a href="https://www.h2b2.es/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies</a> of Spain and <a href="https://www.grinfra.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GR Group</a> of India, is setting up a 1 GW Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzer manufacturing facility in India.</p>
<p>This facility will be located at the Reliance MET Industrial Park in Jhajjar District, Haryana, with its first phase currently underway, and operations are expected to commence in October this year.</p>
<p>The joint venture brings together the technical expertise of H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies, a global player in the hydrogen sector through electrolysis, and the project development and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) experience of GR Group, an infrastructure company in India.</p>
<p>The technology for the plant is provided by the Spanish parent company, H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies. The plant&#8217;s initial capacity will be 100 MW, and GreenH plans to scale it up to 500 MW in two years rapidly.</p>
<p>The long-term vision includes expanding the capacity further to reach 1 GW in Phase 2.</p>
<p>Ashwin Agarwal, Director of GR Promoter Group, said GreenH&#8217;s facility will help meet the rising demand for electrolyzers, especially in the commercial and industrial segments.</p>
<p>The green hydrogen market in India is poised for exponential growth, with hydrogen demand expected to increase fourfold by 2050, primarily driven by the steel industry and heavy-duty transportation.</p>
<p>As India currently spends over $160 billion annually on energy imports, a figure that could double in the next 15 years, the shift towards green hydrogen presents an opportunity to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and bolster energy security, the company said.</p>
<p>In January this year, the Union Cabinet <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/cabinet-approves-%E2%82%B9197-billion-hydrogen-mission" target="_blank" rel="noopener">approved</a> the National Green Hydrogen Mission to facilitate demand creation, production, utilization, and export of green hydrogen with an initial outlay of ₹197.44 billion (~$2.3 billion).</p>
<p>The National Hydrogen Mission aims to accelerate green hydrogen production in India and align the nation&#8217;s energy transition efforts with global best practices in technology, policy, and regulation.</p>
<p>Recently, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ministry-175-billion-program-green-hydrogen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> a framework document outlining incentive programs for the manufacturing of electrolyzers and the production of green hydrogen, with a financial outlay of ₹174.9 billion (~$2.1 billion).</p>

GreenH Electrolysis to Set Up 1 GW PEM Electrolyzer Plant in India

					</table><p>The Solar Energy Corporation of India (<a href="https://www.seci.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SECI</a>) has issued a request for selection (RfS) of electrolyzer manufacturers for setting up 1.5 GW of electrolyzer manufacturing capacities in India under Tranche-I of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Program.</p>
<p>The last date to submit the bids is September 5, 2023. Bids will be opened on September 8.</p>
<p>Bidders must submit a bid processing fee of ₹1.5 million (~$18,153) and an earnest money deposit of ₹740,000 (~$8,955)/MW of the quoted capacity.</p>
<p>The successful bidders must submit a performance bank guarantee of ₹1.48 million (~$17,911)/MW of the allotted capacity within 15 days of receiving the notification of the award.</p>
<p>Under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (<a href="https://mnre.gov.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MNRE</a>) SIGHT program, the government has <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ministry-175-billion-program-green-hydrogen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allotted</a> ₹44.4 billion (~$537.33 million) as incentives for electrolyzer manufacturing.</p>
<p>SECI will act as the implementing agency for the transparent selection process and provide incentives based on the capacity calculated per kW.</p>
<p>The base incentive will start at ₹4,440 (~$54)/kW in the first year and progressively reduce to ₹3,700 (~$45)/kW in the second year, ₹2,960 (~$36)/kW in the third year, ₹2,220 (~$27)/kW in the fourth year, and ₹1,480 (~$18)/kW in the fifth year.</p>
<p>The bids are invited under two buckets – (i) Electrolyzer manufacturing capacity based on any stack technology (1200 MW) and (ii) Electrolyzer manufacturing capacity based on indigenously developed stack technology (300 MW).</p>
<p>Bidders submitting offers for the first bucket must bid for a minimum of 100 MW and a maximum of 300 MW manufacturing capacity. For the second bucket, bidders can submit offers for up to 300 MW manufacturing capacity.</p>
<p>Bidders will be allowed to bid for either or both the buckets. The bids for the first bucket will be decided first, and the maximum capacity allotted to a single bidder will be limited to 300 MW.</p>
<p>The bidders who win less than 300 MW in the first bucket will be considered for the balance capacity under the second bucket.</p>
<p>The selected bidder must set up the manufacturing facilities within 24 months of receiving the letter of award.</p>
<p>Bidders will be evaluated based on two crucial parameters to encourage efficient and high-quality electrolyzers in India.</p>
<p>The first parameter is the Specific Energy Consumption (SEC), which directly impacts the cost of green hydrogen production. The incentives will consider SEC as a determining factor, which should be equal to or less than 56 kWh/kg of green hydrogen production.</p>
<p>The second parameter is local value addition, where bidders must demonstrate a progressive increase in local value addition ranging from 40% to 80% for alkaline electrolyzers and 30% to 70% for proton exchange membrane/anion exchange membrane/solid oxide electrolyzers, year by year.</p>
<p>Bidders must specify their annual manufacturing capacity, committed SEC for each year, and committed local value addition.</p>
<p>The guaranteed life of electrolyzers must be at least 60,000 hrs.</p>
<p>To be eligible, the net worth of the bidders for the financial year 2022-23 must be equal to or greater than ₹10 million (~$121,020)/ MW of the quoted capacity.</p>
<p>Earlier this month, the MNRE <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/draft-roadmap-india-green-hydrogen-ecosystem" target="_blank" rel="noopener">unveiled</a> a draft roadmap outlining the research and development priorities for manufacturing and storing green hydrogen.</p>

SECI Issues RfS for 1.5 GW of Electrolyzer Manufacturing Capacities

<p>Here are some noteworthy cleantech announcements of the day from around the world:</p>
<p><strong>Australian government research agency CSIRO and its partners have </strong><a href="https://www.csiro.au/en/news/News-releases/2021/Fuelling-a-clean-and-bright-future" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>launched</strong></a><strong> a $</strong><strong>68 million Hydrogen Industry Mission.</strong> The research mission will help drive down the cost of hydrogen production to under $2/kg, making the fuel more affordable and helping Australia lead world exports in hydrogen by 2030. Over the next five years, more than 100 projects worth $68 million have been planned by partners including the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources, Australian Renewable Energy Agency, Fortescue Metals Group,  Swinburne University, the Victorian Government, the Future Fuels CRC, National Energy Resources Australia, and the Australian Hydrogen Council, along with collaborators Toyota and Hyundai.</p>
<p><strong>Solar firm </strong><a href="https://www.jakson.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Jakson Group</strong></a><strong> has launched the Helia Series </strong><strong>– a range of </strong><strong>locally developed PV modules using half-cut mono PERC solar cells.</strong> With over 21% efficiency, the series will be in both monofacial and bifacial categories, with variants ranging from 120, 132, 144, and 156 half-cut cells configuration. The Helia series will start from 450 W and go up to 600 W, making Jakson the first module manufacturer in India to offer solar modules with over 520 W capacity.</p>
<p><strong>KPI Global Infrastructure has </strong><a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/c0245dae-f88c-4be6-9a37-3a15b478584c.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>received</strong></a><strong> an order for a 3.5 MW solar project.</strong> Developed for captive consumption, the project has been awarded to KPI Global by Prachi Mittal Creations, Surat. The firm has received the letter of intent for the project. Earlier this month, the company had <a href="https://mercomindia.com/daily-news-captive-solar-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bagged</a> a 12.5 MW capacity solar project <strong>from Anupam Rasayan India.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Indiana-based Cummins has </strong><a href="https://www.cummins.com/news/releases/2021/05/24/cummins-selects-spain-its-gigawatt-electrolyzer-plant-partners-iberdrola" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>partnered</strong></a><strong> with energy company Iberdrola for electrolyzer plants to produce green hydrogen.</strong> This investment in Spain comes soon after Iberdrola and Cummins decided to partner on large-scale hydrogen production projects in Spain and Portugal. The companies have signed an agreement to accelerate the growth of business opportunities in the electrolyzer market of Iberia, promoting the green hydrogen value chain.</p>
<p><strong>Danish power company Ørsted has </strong><a href="https://orsted.com/en/media/newsroom/news/2021/05/485816487947204" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>signed</strong></a><strong> a memorandum of understanding with Korea-based POSCO Group for 1.6 GW offshore wind projects off the coast of Incheon City, South Korea.</strong> Ørsted and POSCO will also conduct feasibility studies for potential collaboration on renewable hydrogen. The project is expected to boost Korea’s ambitious target of installing 12 GW offshore wind capacity by 2030.</p>
