					</table><p>Ahmedabad-based chemical manufacturer Epigral has announced it will source 19.8 MW of wind and solar power from <a href="https://www.prozealgreen.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Prozeal Green Energy</a>’s special purpose vehicle (SPV) Pro-Zeal Green Power Ten. The two companies signed share subscription, shareholders’, and energy supply agreements.</p>
<p>Epigral will invest ₹213.8 million (~$2.4 million) in one or more tranches for a subscription of 26% equity share capital and optionally convertible debentures.</p>
<p>Prozeal Green Power will hold 74% stake in the SPV. The hybrid power project is located in Gujarat.</p>
<p>Epigral said it decided to acquire stakes in the SPV to meet its rising energy demands for upcoming expansion projects and to meet its commitment towards sustainability goals.</p>
<p>It said that after acquiring the stake, the SPV would become an associate company.</p>
<p>According to its annual report for 2023-2024, Epigral set up an 18.34 MW wind-solar hybrid power project in 2023.</p>
<p>Several units in the commercial and industrial (C&amp;I) segment in India have been transitioning to clean energy, as it enables them to meet their renewable energy mandates and reduce their power bills.</p>
<p>India <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/india-adds-6-9-gw-of-solar-open-access-capacity-in-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener">added</a> 6.9 GW of solar open access capacity in 2024, a 77% year-over-year increase from 3.9 GW, according to Mercom India Q4 &amp; Annual 2024 India Solar Open Access Market Report.</p>
<p>The steel industry was the <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/energy-intensive-industries-drive-open-access-solar-growth-amid-challenges" target="_blank" rel="noopener">leading</a> offtaker of solar open access with a share of 33.2%, followed by data centers (13.6%), cement (12.4%), mining (11.9%), and the chemical industry (10%) in 2024. Other industries, including fast-moving consumer goods, automobile, and dairy, constituted 19% of the total offtakers, according to Mercom India Research.</p>

					</table><p>A Denmark-based firm, <a href="https://www.hyme.energy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hyme Energy</a>, has developed a novel energy storage system that uses a type of salt known as sodium hydroxide, known to have exceptional heat storage capabilities and can withstand temperatures up to 1,292°F.</p>
<p>Hyme Energy&#8217;s storage system can store more energy by utilizing this high-temperature salt, making it more efficient than conventional systems.</p>
<p>Additionally, sodium hydroxide is cost-effective, improving the system&#8217;s overall efficiency.</p>
<p>The company said that when Hyme&#8217;s system uses heat instead of just generating electricity, it can achieve efficiencies exceeding 90%. It currently has its sights set on the industrial and residential markets that require heat.</p>
<p>Numerous potential storage solutions are being developed, including large-scale batteries and compressed air storage in underground vaults, all of which aim to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply during low wind and solar power availability.</p>
<p>The team said this energy storage system could amass significant amounts of energy and hold it for up to 24 hours, surpassing the eight-hour discharge capability of lithium-ion storage systems.</p>
<p>Molten salt represents an alternative energy storage method, which involves heating the salts using excess energy from solar and wind sources and later utilizing the stored heat to power a turbine when there is an energy shortage.</p>
<p>Molten salt technology is already utilized in concentrated solar power systems.</p>
<p>However, a significant drawback of this method is that the most used salts, namely sodium nitrate and potassium nitrate, must reach a higher temperature, resulting in a low efficiency of approximately 70% for electricity delivery.</p>
<p><strong>Demonstration System</strong><strong> </strong></p>
<p>Hyme Energy is working on two demonstration facilities for its innovative energy storage system.</p>
<p>The first is a 1.5-MW storage unit in Esbjerg, which will be commissioned this year as an integration project to test components and system integration. The second, a larger 15-20 MWh facility, is planned for Denmark&#8217;s energy island, Bornholm, in 2024.</p>
<p>Hyme&#8217;s system uses two storage tanks and sodium hydroxide, a cost-effective and efficient salt. It will replace an oil boiler in a cogeneration plant, providing the district with steam, power, and heat.</p>
<p>Seaborg Technologies, Hyme&#8217;s sister company, has developed a corrosion control system that allows molten salt to be used in small modular nuclear reactors without causing damage.</p>
<p>If successful, this energy storage method could reduce reliance on fossil fuels and provide power during low wind and solar energy.</p>
<p>Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) have <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/researchers-find-solar-pv-storage-systems" target="_blank" rel="noopener">developed</a> a solution that combines power from renewable sources with electricity from the public grid and uses batteries to compensate for fluctuations.</p>
<p>Earlier this month, researchers at the Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences, China, and Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan, <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/crab-shells-could-power-rechargeable-batteries" target="_blank" rel="noopener">claimed</a> to upcycle crab shells into porous, carbon-filled materials with various uses, including using the crab carbon to create anode materials for sodium-ion batteries.</p>

					</table><p>The promoters of India-based wind energy solutions provider <a href="https://www.inoxwind.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Inox Wind</a> have infused ₹6.2 billion (~$75.34 million) into the company to clear its debts, the company said in a BSE filing.</p>
<p>The company&#8217;s Board had approved a proposal to raise up to ₹8 billion (~$97.2 million) funds in August this year by issuing 0.01% non-convertible non-cumulative participating redeemable preference shares on a private placement basis to the promoters&#8217; group.</p>
<p>The company said that it used the funds to clear the advances it received from its parent company Gujarat Fluorochemicals Limited (<a href="https://www.gfl.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GFL</a>), to set up wind power capacity.</p>
<p>CEO of Inox Wind, Kailash Tarachandani, said, &#8220;The fund infusion of ₹6.2 billion by promoters along with ₹7.4 billion (~$89.9 million) recently raised through the initial public offering of Inox Wind&#8217;s subsidiary Inox Green Energy Services Limited, will help the company pare down its consolidated interest-bearing liabilities substantially and help improve the profitability of both the operating companies significantly.”</p>
<p>&#8220;The turnaround in the wind sector led by the government&#8217;s initiatives to provide impetus to the sector will augur well in accelerating the company&#8217;s growth,” Tarachandani added.</p>
<p>Further, he said that the fund infusion by the promoters signals a strong conviction and faith that the promoters have in the company, which is equally motivated to deliver on the trust and confidence.</p>
<p>Last month, Inox Wind and its subsidiary Inox Green Energy Services <a href="https://mercomindia.com/inox-wind-inox-green-energy-repay-4-billion-debts/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">repaid</a> loans worth ₹1.61 billion (~$19.56 million) and ₹2.5 billion (~$30.37 million), respectively, as part of a strategic initiative to deleverage the balance sheets. The company cleared the debts to reduce the corporate guarantees given by GFL.</p>
<p>In a bourse filing, the company had stated that both companies were in the process of reducing their debts, with Inox&#8217;s near-term goal being to deleverage all its operating entities.</p>
<p>In August this year, Gujarat-based power company Torrent Power <a href="https://mercomindia.com/torrent-power-acquires-50-mw-wind-inox-green/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">acquired</a> 100% of Wind Two Renergy from Inox&#8217;s subsidiary Inox Green Energy Services for ₹325.1 million (~$3.95 million), representing 100% of the paid-up capital of Wind Two Renergy.</p>
