<p>Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT) has partnered with Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL) for a project called Suryoday. The program aims to power all the households in Tunda village of Gujarat with rooftop solar installations.</p>
<p>This project, which targets 100 percent households in the region, will give individual houses rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems which would be connected to the grid without having battery banks.</p>
<p>CGPL has identified Tunda village as a model village and a process to install 200 households with solar power is currently underway and has been done in consultation with the village’s gram panchayat. Under the project, rooftop facility has already been installed in 17 households and connected to grid, Tata Power specified in a media statement.</p>
<p>“We aim to initiate growth in capacity through organic and inorganic means to achieve 30-40% generation capacity of Tata Power from clean energy sources,&#8221; said Ashok Sethi, the COO and Executive Director of Tata Power.</p>
<p>The vendor for the project to install the rooftop systems has been identified by the Gujarat Energy Development Authority (GEDA).</p>
<p>The total cost for the Suryoday project will be ₹69,500 (~$10,297.06) per household/1 KWp and it has received funding from the central and state governments, CGPL, TCDPT, as well as the village community.</p>
<p>According to the latest report released by Mercom India Research – <a href="https://mercomindia.com/product/mercoms-india-solar-market-share-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">India Solar Market Leaderboard 2017</a>, in the calendar year 2017, <a href="https://www.tatapowersolar.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tata Power</a> emerged as the top installer in 2017 followed by <a href="https://cleanmaxsolar.com/">CleanMax</a> and <a href="http://www.fourthpartner.co/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fourth Partner Energy</a>.</p>
<p><a href="https://mercomindia.com/tata-power-annual-profit/">In its annual results,</a> <a href="https://www.tatapower.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tata Power</a> recently announced an annual consolidated profit after tax (PAT) of ₹26.79 billion (~$401.48 million), up by 144 percent when compared with the previous year. Renewable energy contributed to a significate amount in its earnings.</p>
<p>According to <a href="https://mercomindia.com/product/india-solar-project-tracker/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mercom’s India Solar Project Tracker</a>, Tata Power has ~1.25 GW solar installed capacity, with 100 MW of projects under development.</p>
