					</table><p>NTPC SAIL Power Company (<a href="https://www.nspcl.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NSPCL</a>), a joint venture of <a href="https://www.ntpc.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NTPC</a> and Steel Authority of India (<a href="https://www.sail.co.in/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SAIL</a>), has invited bids for an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) package for a 20 MW floating solar project at Maroda Reservoir-2, in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh.</p>
<p>The scope of work covers the development of the floating solar project along with a power evacuation system, including the supply and installation of solar modules in the designated area. It also includes the design of the project and civil, electrical, and mechanical auxiliary systems, and preparation of foundation drawings, single-line diagrams, installation drawings, and electrical layouts, and design calculations.</p>
<p>The successful bidder will also be responsible for the project’s operations and maintenance (O&amp;M) for three years.</p>
<p>The last date to submit bids is May 18. Bids will be opened the following day.</p>
<p>Bidders must submit ₹20 million (~$212,186) as an earnest money deposit.</p>
<p>Preference will be given to Class I and Class II local suppliers. To classify as a Class I local supplier, the local content should be greater than 50%, and for Class II local suppliers, the local content should be between 20-50%.</p>
<p>Bidders should fulfill any of the following criteria:</p>
<ul>
<li>Bidders should, as an EPC contractor, have designed, supplied, erected, and commissioned grid-connected solar power projects of cumulative installed capacity of 16 MW or higher, out of which at least one project should have been of 10 MW or higher capacity. The reference project with a capacity of 10 MW or higher must have been operational for at least 6 months prior to the bid opening date.</li>
<li>They should have developed grid-connected solar power projects with a cumulative installed capacity of 16 MW or higher, out of which at least one project should have been of 10 MW or higher capacity. The reference project with a capacity of 10 MW or higher must have been operational for at least six months prior to the bid opening date.</li>
<li>They should have executed in the last ten years an industrial project either as developer or as EPC contractor in the area of power, steel, oil and gas, petro-chemical, fertilizer, cement, coal mining including coal handling plant and, or any other process industry, of a value of ₹1.2 billion (~$12.73 million) or more in a single project and the same should be in operation for at least one year prior to the bid opening date.</li>
</ul>
<p>Bidders should have executed at least one electrical substation of 33 kV or above voltage level, consisting of equipment such as 33 kV or above voltage level circuit breakers and a power transformer, either as developer or as EPC contractor, which should be in successful operation for at least one year prior to the bid opening date.</p>
<p>The average annual turnover of bidders should be at least ₹1.2 billion (~$12.73 million) during the last three financial years.</p>
<p>The net worth of bidders as on the last day of the preceding financial year should not be less than 100% of the bidder’s paid-up share capital.</p>
<p>Last October, NSPCL <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/nspcl-commissions-15-mw-floating-solar-project-in-chhattisgarh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">commissioned</a> a 15 MW floating solar project at the Maroda-1 reservoir of the Bhilai Steel Plant in Chhattisgarh.</p>

					</table><p>A joint venture between the Steel Authority of India (<a href="https://www.sail.co.in/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SAIL</a>) and <a href="https://ntpc.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NTPC</a>, NTPC-SAIL Power Company (<a href="https://www.nspcl.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NSPCL</a>), has commissioned a 15 MW floating solar project at the Maroda-1 reservoir of the Bhilai Steel Plant in Chhattisgarh.</p>
<p>Spread over 80 acres, the floating project was built at a cost of ₹1.11 billion (~$12.5 million).</p>
<p>The work for the floating solar power project was <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/madhav-infra-15-mw-floating-solar-contract" target="_blank" rel="noopener">awarded</a> to engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor Madhav Infra Projects (MIPL) in May last year.</p>
<p>The tender for the project was <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ntpc-bids-for-floating-solar-project-in-chhattisgarh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">floated</a> in January 2024.</p>
<p>MIPL was also responsible for the power evacuation system, a three-year operation and maintenance period post-commissioning, and an annual maintenance contract for critical equipment.</p>
<p>The project is expected to generate 34.25 million units of clean electricity annually.</p>
<p>Chitta Ranjan Mohapatra, Interim Director at SAIL-BSP, announced plans to set up another floating solar project at the Maroda-2 reservoir.</p>
<p>In May 2024, NTPC and SAIL signed the power purchase agreement for the project.</p>
<p>In May this year, NTPC Renewable Energy <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ntpc-renewable-energy-epc-floating-solar" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids for the EPC package for a 56 MW floating solar project with a 60 MW/240 MWh battery energy storage system at NTPC North Karanpura in Chatra, Jharkhand.</p>
<p>In an interview on the sidelines of the Mercom India Renewables Summit 2025, <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/standardization-and-innovation-key-to-floating-solar-expansion-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">held</a> in New Delhi on July 24 and 25, 2025, Deepak Ushadevi, MD and CEO at Ciel et Terre Solar, stated that floating solar is poised to become a major driver of India’s renewable energy growth. He added that it is not just a niche segment offering key advantages over ground-mount systems, such as no land acquisition issues, faster scalability, and higher generation.</p>
<p>According to data from the Central Electricity Authority, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, and Mercom’s India Solar Project Tracker, solar power <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/renewable-energy-capacity-in-indias-power-mix-reaches-48-3-in-q2-2025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accounted</a> for 24% of the total installed power capacity and 49.7% of the total installed renewable capacity as of June 2025.</p>


NSPCL Commissions 15 MW Floating Solar Project in Chhattisgarh

<p>The <a href="http://remcl.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Railways Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL)</a>, a joint venture of Indian Railways and RITES Limited, has invited bid for the setting up of 50 MWp solar project on railways land at Bhilai, Chhattisgarh under tariff based competitive bidding.</p>
<p>The earnest Money Deposit (EMD) for the solar project is ₹1 million (~$14,119.31)/MWp.</p>
<p>Pre-bid meeting will take place on October 25, 2018 and the last date for the submission of bid is November 30, 2018.</p>
<p>The power from this project will be utilized by Railways and South East Central Railway (SECR) will sign Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the selected bidder for a period of 25 years. The scope of work includes the design, build, finance,operation, transfer (construction) and selling the solar power.</p>
<p><a href="https://mercomindia.com/indian-railways-green-with-solar-panels-more-trains/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mercom reported</a> previously that Indian Railways is continuing its efforts to add solar for its electricity requirements. Railways is the single largest consumer of electricity in the country, with roughly 2 percent share of national energy consumption.</p>
<p>Moreover, Indian Railways has announced that it is planning to <a href="https://mercomindia.com/indian-railways-net-zero-carbon-emitter-2030/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">become a net-zero carbon</a> emitter by 2030 and is working tirelessly on all fronts to reduce its carbon footprint. The infrastructure as well as the space available to the Indian Railways has opened avenues for the development of rooftop and ground-mount solar projects that can be utilized to address its increasing energy needs.</p>
<p><a href="https://mercomindia.com/indian-railways-plans-stations-trains-solar-panels/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Recently,</a> it was reported that Indian Railways is gradually turning towards <a href="https://mercomindia.com/indian-railways-shift-energy-mix-toward-renewable-sources/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">green initiatives</a> for electrification as well as decarbonization. Solar panels at rooftops of 78 railway stations across Kerala have been planned based on feasibility at the stations.</p>
<p>Mercom <a href="https://mercomindia.com/railways-to-tender-5gw-solar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">previously reported</a> that the Railways had announced it will soon launch tenders to set up large-scale solar power projects, inching closer towards its overall solar power target of 5 GW. The 5 GW capacity will consist of utility-scale and rooftop solar power projects.</p>
