					</table><p>Automotive component company Varroc Engineering (<a href="https://varroc.com/">Varroc</a>) will procure solar power from <a href="https://ampin.energy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AMPIN</a>&#8216;s 27 MW group captive project in Maharashtra.</p>
<p>The two companies signed a transaction document for the power procurement.</p>
<p>AMPIN has set up multiple solar projects in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.</p>
<p>With the latest power purchase agreement, Varroc&#8217;s total contracted solar capacity with AMPIN reached more than 60 MW. This will enable Varroc to meet approximately 70% of its energy requirements with renewable energy.</p>
<p>This shift to renewable energy sources is projected to result in substantial cost savings, with an estimated 45% reduction in energy costs across Varroc’s manufacturing plants in Maharashtra.</p>
<p>According to its 2023-24 annual report, nearly 50% of Varroc’s facilities have rooftop solar installations. In the financial year 2024, the company generated 22.08 MW of renewable energy. The company has three wind projects and one solar project.</p>
<p>The company&#8217;s renewable captive energy generation expanded to 21,699,947 kWh in FY 2023-24.</p>
<p>Further, the solar project installed by the company at Shivaji Nagar, Dhule, Maharashtra, generated 57,09,506 units of electricity, amounting to ₹38.68 million (~$459,932).</p>
<p>Varroc said the first phase of its renewable energy initiative will help it save more than ₹200 million (~$2.37 million) annually.</p>

<p>In FY 2021-22, Varroc&#8217;s electricity consumption from rooftop solar systems was 7,510,574 kWh, and 11,463,744 kWh from wind energy. By FY 2022-23, rooftop solar generation increased to 9,276,336 kWh and wind generation to 12,021,076 kWh.</p>
<p>This upward trend continued with Varroc&#8217;s electricity consumption from captive renewable sources expanding to 21,699,947 kWh in FY 2023-24.</p>
<p>Recently, Bengaluru-based pharmaceutical company Strides Pharma Science <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/strides-pharma-to-procure-solar-power-from-ampins-project-in-chennai" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> an investment of ₹16.1 million (~$191,495) to acquire a 2.48% stake in AMPIN Energy C&amp;I One on a fully diluted basis to set up captive solar power projects in Tamil Nadu.</p>
<p>Kolkata-based Ramkrishna Forgings <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ramkrishna-forgings-to-procure-power-from-ampins-solar-project" target="_blank" rel="noopener">approved</a> an equity and debenture investment of ₹129 million (~$15.34 million) in a special purpose vehicle of AMPIN Energy Transition to procure solar power in a captive arrangement.</p>

					</table><p>Independent power producer <a href="https://ampin.energy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AMPIN Energy Transition</a> has announced the financial closure for its 200 MW wind-solar hybrid project in Rajasthan, with the final step achieved through a green loan of ₹7.42 billion (~$88.27 million) from <a href="https://www.sc.com/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Standard Chartered</a>.</p>
<p>The total investment for this project is ₹9.44 billion (~$112.3 million).</p>
<p>The hybrid project is expected to generate approximately 435 million units of renewable electricity annually. This clean energy output will power an estimated 74,486 households.</p>
<p>The project was <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/tata-power-amp-energy-ntpc-sjvn-winners-secis-1-2-gw-hybrid-auction/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">awarded</a> under Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (<a href="https://www.seci.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SECI</a>) Tranche-V wind-solar hybrid auction. The power generated will be sold to the SECI under a 25-year power purchase agreement.</p>
<p>“This collaboration with Standard Chartered Bank supports our vision of driving the renewable energy transition and transforming the energy landscape in India,” said Pinaki Bhattacharyya, MD and CEO of AMPIN Energy Transition.</p>
<p>AMPIN operates a 410 MW solar portfolio in Rajasthan, serving a diverse customer base that includes utility, commercial, and industrial clients. The addition of this solar-wind hybrid plant will expand the company’s renewable energy footprint in the state to a total of 1 GW.</p>
<p>Recently, Japan-headquartered Sumitomo Corporation <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/sumitomo-partners-energy-projects-in-india/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">entered</a> India’s corporate power purchase agreement market through a joint venture with AMPIN Energy Transition to supply 1 GW of renewable energy to the industrial sector in the coming years. Sumitomo will hold 49% of the venture and AMPIN 51%.</p>
<p>In May, AMPIN <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ampin-energy-secures-to-fund-expansion-plans/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> funding of up to $35 million from responsAbility, an investor focusing on private markets, to help AMPIN expand its clean energy projects across India.</p>
<p>Earlier, AMPIN Energy Transition <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ampin-energy-secures-manufacturing-facility-in-odisha" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> an investment from Oesterreichische Entwicklungsbank, the Development Bank of Austria, totaling €25 million (~$26.9 million) in long-term financing.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/andhra-pradesh-energy-access-rules-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation has invited bids for a two-year comprehensive annual maintenance contract</strong></a> for a 1 MW solar power project at Ramakkalmedu, Idukki. The last date for submitting bids is May 14, 2024. Bids will be opened on May 16. Bidders must pay a tender document fee of ₹3,626 ($43) and an earnest money deposit of ₹24,170 ($289.46). The successful bidder is required to provide a performance bank guarantee equivalent to 5% of the contract amount.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/andhra-pradesh-energy-access-rules-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Wind energy solutions provider </strong><strong>Inox Wind</strong><strong> reported a profit after tax of ₹376.7 million (~$4.51 million) for the fourth quarter of the financial year 2024</strong></a> from a loss of ₹1.15 billion (~$13.77 million) in the same quarter of the previous year. The company’s quarterly income reached ₹5.63 billion (~$67.43 million), a 190% increase year-over-year (YoY). <p>The capital infusion is expected to aid AmpIn Energy Transition in establishing a 1 GW domestic solar cell and module production facility in Odisha and expanding its renewable energy portfolio.</p>
<p>In October last year, AmpIn Energy Transition <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ampin-jupiter-international-solar-module-unit-by-fy25/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> a joint venture with Jupiter International to set up a facility to manufacture up to 1.3 GW of solar cells and modules. The facility, which is being established with funds under the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) program, is expected to be commissioned in the financial year 2024-25.</p>
<p>The company has a diverse portfolio spanning 3 GW across 21 states in India and plans to expand it to 10 GW by 2030.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/rec-limited-lead-national-rooftop-solar-program" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Public infrastructure finance company REC Limited has been designated as the overall implementing agency for the Grid-Connected Rooftop Solar Program, which aims to achieve 40 GW of rooftop solar capacity by March 2026.</strong></a> REC will be responsible for executing the program prepared by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and coordinating with all stakeholders across the country for its effective implementation. The Phase II of the program, with an outlay of ₹118.14 billion (~$1.42 billion) for both the residential segment (Component A) and distribution companies (Component B), was initially launched in 2019 to achieve 40 GW capacity by 2022.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ntpc-green-tender-epc-land-300-mw-solar" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>NTPC Green Energy has invited bids for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) package with land for up to 300 MW of ISTS-connected solar power projects anywhere in India</strong></a><strong>.</strong> The scope of work includes identification, acquisition, and complete transfer of ownership or lease of encumbrance-free land to NEEPCO. The developer must also identify and arrange grid connectivity to the ISTS substation. The last date to submit the bids is February 27, 2024. Bids will be opened on the same day. Bidders must pay ₹22,500 (~$270.68) towards the cost of bidding documents.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ntpc-tender-6-35-mw-rooftop-solar" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam has invited bids from enlisted developers to install 6,352 kW of grid-connected rooftop solar power projects on various buildings of public sector undertakings under the Department of Defense Production in the southern region.</strong></a> The last date to submit the bids is February 1, 2024. Bids will be opened on February 2. The successful bidder will be responsible for the design, engineering, testing, assessment of roofs, water arrangements, electricity security, and determination of the optimal capacity for setting up the solar power systems.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/lowers-sterling-wilsons-q3-net-loss" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy’s consolidated net loss was reduced by 37% year-over-year (YoY) to ₹623.9 million (~$7.5 million) for the third quarter of the financial year 2023-24.</strong></a> In the corresponding period last year, the company had run up a loss of ₹991.5 million (~$11.92 million) due to reduced contributions from the domestic and international EPC business segment. The company reported a total revenue of ₹6.1 billion (~$73.3 million), a 46% YoY increase. The revenue generated from the domestic EPC segment was ₹4.7 billion (~$56.5 million).</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/unjustified-load-shedding-attract-penalties-discoms" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Union Minister for Power and New &amp; Renewable Energy R K Singh has warned distribution companies that unjustified load-shedding will be penalized going forward, calling the practice of cutting off electricity supply to different regions “an insult to the people.”</strong></a> “We have said that consumers have rights to 24*7 electricity and that if there is any gratuitous load-shedding, then penalties have to be levied, and compensation has to be given,” he said at a review meeting of the power sector.</p>

<p>The solar projects will be developed in two packages of 2.5 MW and 3.5 MW. The projects will be distributed across 13 metro stations, two depot buildings, one administration building, and three station track walls.</p>
<p>The projects are expected to replace ~36% of grid power with solar power for Nagpur Metro, resulting in 41% savings per unit. In terms of environmental impact, the carbon offset achieved by this initiative would be approximately 7,000 MT of CO2 annually for the life of the project.</p>
<p>This is AmpIn’s third solar project for a metro rail and its inaugural metro venture in Maharashtra, following two operating solar projects for L&amp;T Metro and  Kochi Metro.</p>

<p>MMRCL is a special-purpose company sponsored by the Government of Maharashtra and the Government of India in 2015.</p>
<p>AmpIn has an active portfolio of ~230 MW of assets under the open access and distributed generation mode in Maharashtra, catering to eight to nine customers.</p>

<p>In October, AmpIn Energy Transition <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ampin-jupiter-international-solar-module-unit-by-fy25/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> a joint venture with Jupiter International to set up a facility to manufacture up to 1.3 GW of solar cells and modules. The facility, which is being established with funds under the government’s Production Linked Incentive program, is expected to be commissioned in the financial year 2024-25.</p>
<p>Under the PLI, AmpIn is eligible to <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/reliance-renew-tata-power-winners-pli-11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">receive</a> a maximum incentive of ₹1.4 billion (~$17 million) for manufacturing 1 GW of cells and modules.</p>

This amendment is set to come into force on April 1, 2024. Until then, the earlier renewable purchase obligation (RPO) will remain in force.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ntpc-tenders-land-gw-solar-projects" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NTPC Renewable Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC, has invited bids for implementing land and extra high voltage transmission system package for the development</a></strong> of an Inter-State Transmission System connected solar power projects of up to 1 GW in the Bhuj region of Gujarat. The last date for the submission of bids is November 28, 2023. Bids will be opened on the same day. The individual bidders must offer a minimum capacity of 300 MW, and they can increase their bid in increments of 100 MW, up to a maximum of 1GW.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/gensol-secures-epc-contract-in-maharashtra" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Engineering and consulting firm Gensol Engineering has secured a ₹3.02 billion (~$36.3 million) contract to construct a solar power project from Maharashtra State Power Generation Company</strong></a>. The company will undertake the conceptualization, engineering, provisioning, installation, testing, and commissioning of a 62 MW grid-connected solar photovoltaic project. The facility will be in the village of Paras, Taluka Balapur, District Akola, Maharashtra.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/uttar-pradesh-potential-solar-open-access-market" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Uttar Pradesh, India’s largest state, is transitioning from a predominantly agricultural economy into a promising industrial hub.</strong></a> The state’s recent industrial initiatives have led to an increase in power demand. According to CEA, the states’ energy demand has increased by 10% year-over-year as of September 2023. The state has been attracting growing interest from solar open access developers and consumers thanks to the state’s robust incentive package.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/eu-drafts-europes-wind-energy-sector-competitive" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>The European Commission has outlined a six-point action plan to make Europe’s wind energy industry competitive by ensuring more financial support and prioritizing the acceleration of permitting.</strong></a> Acknowledging that the European wind industry has recently faced difficulties with all large wind turbine manufacturers reporting significant operating losses in 2022, the Commission told the European Parliament that Europe was nowhere near the 37 GW per year needed as a cost-effective contribution to achieving the EU 2030 target for renewables.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/germany-installs-3-4-gw-solar-q3-79-yoy-growth" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Germany installed 3.4 GW of solar power capacity in the third quarter of 2023, a 79% year-over-year growth from 1.9 GW.</strong></a> On a quarter-over-quarter basis, the installations, however, witnessed a 5.6% drop from 3.6 GW. The data was published in a recent report by the German Federal Network Agency Bundesnetzagentur. The total capacity installed during the first nine months of 2023 stood at 10.1 GW, an 80.36% increase from the 5.6 GW recorded during 9M 2022.</p>

Perovskite silicon tandems are used to absorb high-energy light, with a silicon-made bottom cell specifically for absorbing lower-energy infrared rays, making their application popular in solar energy generation.</p>
