					</table><p><a href="https://www.sael.co/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SAEL</a>, an India-based solar and agricultural waste-to-energy company, raised $1 billion in a funding round involving <a href="https://www.norfund.no/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Norfund</a>, the U.S. <a href="https://www.dfc.gov/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Development Finance Corporation</a>, the Asian Development Bank (<a href="https://www.adb.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ADB</a>), <a href="https://www.tatacapital.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tata Cleantech</a>, and other financial institutions.</p>
<p>Out of the total, ADB approved a ₹12.23 billion ($147 million) loan for a 400 MW solar project in Gujarat, and Tata Capital provided financing of ₹6.11 billion ($73.4 million).</p>
<p>ADB led the financial structuring and mobilized domestic private capital</p>
<p>The company said the investment will be used to expand its solar and biomass projects, taking advantage of the favorable market conditions and government programs in the renewable energy sector.</p>
<p>SAEL is set to construct and manage a solar power project in the Khavda Ultra Mega Solar Park, Gujarat, India. The electricity generated will be provided to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL) under a 25-year purchase agreement.</p>
<p>The plant is expected to generate an average of 953 GWh of clean energy annually, preventing approximately 783,855 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.</p>
<p>SAEL has planned an expansion with a capital expenditure goal of ₹150 billion (~$1.8 billion) in FY25. The company aims to execute 2-2.5 GW of renewable capacity every year to reach a target of 10 GW in the next four years.</p>
<p>The company has a portfolio of 2.7 GW.</p>
<p>Jasbir Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of SAEL, said the support of investors reflected the company’s commitment to advancing renewable energy initiatives.</p>
<p>He reiterated SAEL&#8217;s focus on solar and waste-to-energy projects.</p>
<p>Norfund’s CEO, Tellef Thorleifsson, said the funding was in line with the mandate Norfund has for the management of the Norwegian Climate Investment Fund.</p>
<p>Deputy Chief of the U.S. Mission in India, Patricia Lacina, highlighted the collaborative vision between her country and India to deploy clean energy at scale, expressing confidence that DFC’s investment in SAEL would contribute to increased renewable energy capacity, reduced particulate matter, and support for enhanced farmer incomes.</p>
<p>In March 2023, SAEL <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/adb-loan-%e2%82%b97-5-billion-sael-74-5-mw-biomass" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> loan agreements with the Asian Development Bank for up to ₹7.5 billion (~$91.16 million) to promote biomass energy generation using agricultural residue. The funding will support the construction of five 14.9 MW biomass power projects in the Bikaner, Churu, Hanumangarh, Jhunjhunu, and Sikar districts of Rajasthan.</p>
<p>In April, The company <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/sael-raises-%e2%82%b913-3-portfolio-via-bond-issue" target="_blank" rel="noopener">raised</a> ₹13.25 Billion (~$159.38 million) via the sale of rupee bonds, which will mature in 2033.</p>
<p>Earlier, SAEL <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/sael-renew-eden-jakson-winners-secis-solar-auction" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won</a> Solar Energy Corporation of India’s auction to set up 2 GW of interstate transmission system solar projects (Tranche XI), bagging a capacity of 600 MW for a quoted price of ₹2.60 (~$0.032)/kWh.</p>

SAEL Secures $1 Billion Funding for Renewable Energy Expansion

					</table><p><a href="https://enphase.com/en-in" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Enphase Energy</a>, a microinverter-based solar and storage systems supplier, recorded a net income of $141.85 million during the third quarter (Q3) of 2023, a year-over-year (YoY) decrease of 19 % from $175.51 million.</p>
<p>During the quarter, the revenue was reported at $551.1 million, a YoY decrease of 13%, primarily attributed to adverse macroeconomic conditions.</p>
<p>Specifically, revenue within the U.S. decreased approximately 16% in Q3 2023 compared to Q2 2023.</p>
<p>In Europe, revenue decreased by approximately 34% during the same period due to excess inventory held by distribution partners and softened demand in key markets, namely the Netherlands, France, and Germany.</p>
<p>Operating expenses totaled $99 million in Q3 2023, slightly up from $98.2 million in the previous quarter.</p>
<p><strong>Operational Highlights </strong></p>
<p>Enphase’s IQ8 microinverters accounted for approximately 86% of all microinverter shipments during the quarter. The company expanded its market presence by introducing IQ8 Microinverters in various countries, including the United Kingdom, Brazil, Sweden, Denmark, South Africa, India, and Greece, extending their global footprint to 15 countries.</p>
<p>In the same period, the company’s IQ Battery shipments increased to 86.2 MWh, up from 82.3 MWh in Q2 2023. The company expanded its presence by introducing IQ Batteries in Sweden, Denmark, and Greece.</p>
<p>During the quarter, the IQ Battery 5P was launched in the United Kingdom and is now being shipped to Australia, the United States, Puerto Rico, and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, more than 4,100 installers worldwide have obtained certification to install IQ Batteries.</p>
<p>Microinverter shipments began from the company&#8217;s third U.S. contract manufacturer, Salcomp, in Arlington, Texas.</p>
<p>Approximately 531,000 microinverters were shipped to customers in Q3 2023 from the company&#8217;s three contract manufacturers, including Flex in South Carolina, Foxconn in Wisconsin, and Salcomp in Texas.</p>
<p>In August, the company introduced a comprehensive solution to maximize the return on investment for homeowners under California&#8217;s new net billing tariff, called NEM 3.0.</p>
<p>September witnessed Enphase&#8217;s new system launch, which features its new IQ Battery 5P and IQ8 Microinverters, focusing on the United Kingdom market.</p>
<p>Enphase Energy entered the Greek solar market in October by introducing IQ8 microinverters and IQ batteries, marking its expansion into new territories. Additionally, the company made an EV charger available in the United States and Canada to boast smart control and monitoring capabilities.</p>
<p>Shipments of its IQ8 microinverters also commenced in India to support high-powered solar modules, while South Africa saw Enphase&#8217;s entry with IQ8 microinverters for grid-tied residential and small commercial applications.</p>
<p>Enphase <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/enphase-energys-q1-million-on-higher-shipments" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> a 183% YoY surge in profit at $147 million for Q1 of 2023, mainly driven by increased microinverter and battery shipments to new regions.</p>
<p>Previously, the company <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/enphase-q4-profit-climbs-193-yoy-higher-shipments" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> it planned to add manufacturing capacity in America to address the demand and build on the incentives related to the Inflation Reduction Act.</p>

Enphase Reports 19% YoY Net Income Decline to $142 Million in Q3

					</table><p>Four U.S-based independent power producers have formed a consortium to bolster the country&#8217;s rapid scaling of domestic solar manufacturing. They plan to spend over $6 billion on solar modules to support the expansion of the domestic supply chain.</p>
<p>The developers&#8217; consortium comprising <a href="https://www.aes.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AES Corporation</a>, <a href="https://www.clearwayenergygroup.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Clearway Energy Group</a>, <a href="https://ccrenew.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cypress Creek Renewables</a>, and <a href="https://desri.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">D.E. Shaw Renewables</a> would purchase over 6 GW of crystalline silicon solar modules annually from local manufacturers.</p>
<p>The proposed purchase aims at driving the much-needed growth of the solar sector in America.</p>
<p>In a statement, the consortium said accelerating solar project deployment is essential to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees. While the White House&#8217;s recent action to support domestic manufacturing is a step toward addressing supply chain challenges, the consortium recognizes that more must be done to provide lower-cost, reliable, clean power to American families and businesses.</p>
<p>Earlier this month, President Joe Biden <a href="https://mercomindia.com/president-biden-waives-duties-solar-module-imports/">announced</a> a 24-month duty exemption on solar modules and cells imported from Cambodia, Malaysia, and Thailand to ensure that the U.S. solar industry has access to a sufficient supply of the components. The administration also announced that it would collaborate with local bodies, including municipal utilities, to achieve around 100 GW of domestically manufactured solar modules.</p>
<p>The government authorized the Defense Production Act (DPA), empowering the Department of Energy to take sector- and consumer-centric initiatives to rapidly expand critical clean energy technologies in the country.</p>
<p>Clearway Energy Group CEO Craig Cornelius said, &#8220;By enacting legislation pending before Congress, policymakers can enable our consortium&#8217;s goal to broaden the range of products we use from American sources and increase our domestic solar manufacturing workforce. We look forward to partnering with federal, state, and local partners in government to fulfill this goal over the years ahead.&#8221;</p>
<p>According to a survey <a href="https://mercomindia.com/solar-companies-us-delay-module-deliveries/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">conducted</a> recently by the Solar Energy Industry Association in April, the probe initiated by the U.S. Department of Commerce into solar imports negatively affected 90% of domestic solar manufacturing companies.</p>
<p>Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam came under scrutiny for <a href="https://mercomindia.com/us-probe-solar-module-imports-southeast-asia/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">using</a> China-made components to assemble panels in America after U.S-based Auxin Solar filed alleged discrepancy in the assembling process.</p>

Developers Consortium to Buy Over 6 GW of Modules Annually to Support Local Manufacturing

<p>The U.S. government has launched the Interconnection Innovation e-Xchange (i2X) initiative through its Department of Energy (<a href="https://www.energy.gov/eere/solar/solar-futures-study">DoE</a>) to connect more green energy to the country&#8217;s grid.</p>
<p>The initiative will reduce the waiting period for clean energy sources in interconnection queues while lowering the grid connection rates. The participants in the program will work towards developing solutions for faster, simpler, and fairer interconnection of clean energy resources through better data, roadmap development, and technical assistance.</p>
<p>i2X was launched through a partnership between DoE and the government, funded by President Biden&#8217;s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.</p>
<p>Experts from DOE&#8217;s solar and wind energy technology centers and national labs will collaborate with participating i2X organizations to develop a 5-year roadmap under the program to identify research gaps and benchmarks for grid interconnection.</p>
<p>The i2X program is likely to be a potential tool for the Biden administration in stabilizing the ever-expanding renewable capacity in the country while unwinding a plethora of options for the sector to reach the President&#8217;s goal of 100% clean electricity by 2035.</p>

<p>A recent study by the DoE revealed that solar and wind resources in the U.S. will need rapid expansion to meet Biden&#8217;s goals. However, current rules, costs, and procedures for connecting to the grid cannot handle the rapid increase in clean energy projects. Moreover, the interconnection queue waiting times for the number of clean energy generation and storage projects slated to be added to the grid are growing as the demand for renewable electricity rises.</p>
<p>The partners in the i2X initiative will address the inequities caused by burdensome interconnection processes in alignment with the Administration&#8217;s Justice40 program.</p>
<p>The U.S. Secretary of Energy, Jennifer M. Granholm, said, &#8220;Funding in the President&#8217;s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will help DoE and our national labs build a coalition of problem solvers to tackle interconnection issues, ensure grid reliability, and develop equitable solutions for all communities. Eliminating the gridlock that is slowing down clean energy deployment is critical to increasing access to cheaper electricity for American families and businesses.&#8221;</p>
<p>Earlier this month, the DoE <a href="https://mercomindia.com/us-seeks-public-feedback-transmission-program/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued</a> a Request for Information to collect public response on the $2.5 billion Transmission Facilitation Program structure, which is one of the first down payments on over $20 billion of investments under the Building a Better Grid Initiative announced last April.</p>
<p>The DoE also<a href="https://mercomindia.com/us-funding-boost-domestic-battery-manufacturing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> announced</a> $3.16 billion in funding from President&#8217;s Bipartisan Law to expand domestic battery manufacturing and bolster domestic supply chains while creating more jobs.</p>

US Launches i2X Initiative to Add More Clean Energy to the Grid

<p>Global investment firm <a href="https://www.blackstone.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Blackstone</a> has announced that funds managed by Blackstone Infrastructure Partners will invest approximately $3 billion equity investment in Invenergy Renewables Holdings.</p>
<p>Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) and Invenergy management will remain the company&#8217;s majority owners, and <a href="https://invenergy.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Invenergy</a> will continue as the managing member.</p>
<p>Invenergy Renewables is one of the largest private renewable energy companies in North America.</p>
<p>The investment is expected to increase Invenergy&#8217;s renewable deployment activities. The company has over 175 projects totaling nearly 25 GW developed across four continents, and the company&#8217;s projects have offset 167 million tons of carbon dioxide.</p>
<p>Invenergy Renewables has a significant development and construction pipeline, and its affiliate Invenergy Transmission is developing some of the world&#8217;s most innovative transmission infrastructure projects. The company is also developing wind and solar projects in the United States to deliver a combined capacity of 3 GW of clean energy by 2023.</p>
<p>The company has been working towards expanding its portfolio to include solar power generation since 2012. Currently, Invenergy has nearly 6 GW of solar capacity with 49 projects and nearly 17.5 GW of wind capacity with 110 projects.</p>
<p>Early last year, Invenergy had <a href="https://mercomindia.com/invenergy-financing-america-largest-solar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> the completion of construction financing for the first phase of Samson Solar Energy center in Northern Texas, one of the largest solar energy facilities in the US.</p>
<p>Since 2019, Blackstone has committed nearly $13 billion in investments that the company believes are consistent with the broader energy transition. In September 2020, it had <a href="https://mercomindia.com/blackstone-sets-up-250-million-fund-for-distributed-projects/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> a $250 million fund for distributed and sustainable energy infrastructure assets to ride on the renewable energy wave that&#8217;s sweeping energy markets globally.</p>
<p>Earlier, Loanpal, a U.S.-based financial technology company, had <a href="https://mercomindia.com/blackstone-to-invest-300-million/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revealed</a> that Blackstone would invest nearly $300 million (~₹22.44 billion) in residential solar loans on the Loanpal platform.</p>
<p>According to Mercom’s 9M and Q3 2021 Solar Funding and M&amp;A <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/product/9m-q3-2021-solar-funding-ma-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Report</a>, corporate funding activity in the global solar market, including venture capital funding, public market, and debt financing in the first nine months (9M) of 2021, came to $22.8 billion in 112 deals, a 190% increase compared to $7.9 billion in 72 deals in 9M 2020. In 9M 2021, the solar sector raised $2.2 billion in VC funding in 39 deals, a 466% increase compared to $394 million in 29 deals in 9M 2020.</p>

Blackstone to Invest Nearly $3 Billion in Renewable Energy Developer Invenergy

<p>Here are some noteworthy cleantech news and announcements of the day from around the world:</p>
<p><strong>Trina Solar </strong><a href="https://apnews.com/PR%20Newswire/ab6f708a314db64fb9ec998193646512" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> that it had signed an investment co-operation agreement with the management committee of the Yancheng Economic and Technological Development Zone</strong> to expand its manufacturing capacity of 210-millimeter solar cells. The company said that it would add 7.6 GW in annual production capacity at the Yancheng manufacturing facility, and would increase 2.5 GW of cell capacity outside of China. It would also upgrade another 2.4 GW of existing production capacity at the Yancheng production facility. The company said that the expansion of production facilities would increase the manufacturing capacity up to 26 GW.</p>
<p><strong>Key Capture Energy, a U.S.-based energy storage developer, has </strong><a href="https://www.keycaptureenergy.com/key-capture-energy-mhps-powin-energy-partnership-200-mw-storage-texas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>selected</strong></a><strong> Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas (MHPS) and Powin Energy Corporation (Powin) </strong>to build three utility-scale battery energy storage systems projects totaling 200 MW in Texas. The company said that MHPS would provide services like turnkey engineering, procurement, construction. MHPS would also provide long-term service support for all the direct current equipment, power conversion system, and high-voltage substations. On the other hand, Powin Energy would provide a fully-integrated battery, a battery management system, and long-term service.</p>
<p><strong>174 Power Global, a U.S.-based energy firm, </strong><a href="https://174powerglobal.com/174-power-global-completes-construction-of-1200-acre-oberon-solar-farm-in-west-texas-2/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>completed</strong></a><strong> and energized its Oberon Solar Power Project in Texas.</strong> The company said that its affiliate Chariot Energy had signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 30 MW of the 180 MW project. The Energy generated from the 180 MW solar project would be provided to the retail consumers of Chariot Energy. 174 Power Global started the construction of the project near Odessa in Ector County in June 2019.</p>
<p><strong>KPI Global Infrastructure Limited, an India-based solar energy provider, </strong><a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/907444fd-4e2b-49f7-9e2b-d03ed82ec30a.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> that it had signed a long-term power purchase agreement with Chemie Organic Chemicals Private Limited</strong> for sale of 1.10 MW of solar power for 20 years. The company said that the agreement was signed under independent power producer (IPP) business vertical.</p>

Daily News Wrap-Up: Trina Solar to Expand Capacity, KPI Global Signs PPA

<p>In 2018, a total of 20,641 wind turbines were installed across the globe with a total capacity of 50,617 MW. These wind turbines were supplied by 37 manufacturers, says a recent <a href="https://gwec.net/gwec:-1-in-5-wind-turbines-are-installed-by-vestas,-according-to-new-market-intelligence-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">report</a> by the Global Wind Energy Council.</p>
<p>According to the report, eight out of the top 15 wind turbine manufacturers are based in China. Moreover, one in five wind turbines were installed by Vestas, the world’s largest turbine supplier in 2018, followed by Goldwind and Siemens Gamesa.</p>
<p>Vestas was the world’s largest turbine supplier in 2018 due to its wide geographic diversification strategy and strong performance in the Americas according to the report. Goldwind moved up one position to second place after its domestic market share increased by 5.1% in 2018. Siemens Gamesa fell one position to third place, primarily due to lower installation in the U.K., Germany and India in 2018.</p>
<p>After reverse auctions kicked in for wind power procurement in India, the installation numbers fell but these are expected to spike as auctioned projects near completion towards the end of 2019 and early 2020. The first batch of the auctioned interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind energy projects was commissioned in India <a href="https://mercomindia.com/india-first-batch-ists-wind-commissioned/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">in August 2018</a>.</p>
<p>GE Renewable Energy retained fourth place by taking advantage of stronger performance in the U.S. market, where it recaptured the title as the No.1 supplier. Envision replaced Enercon in fifth place, mainly due to its strong growth in China and the sharp drop of installations in Enercon’s domestic German market in 2018.</p>
<p>Chinese suppliers Mingyang, United Power and Sewind moved up to seventh, ninth and tenth positions respectively, which can be largely attributed to stable performances in their home markets. Suzlon dropped out of the top 10 turbine supplier ranking in 2018, primarily a result of reduced installations, by up to one third, in its home market of India.</p>
<p>Senvion fell three positions to 12<sup>th,</sup> with new installations in Germany in 2018 halving compared to the previous year. Chinese suppliers CSIC Haizhuang and XEMC remained in the top 15, however, both lost market share in 2018.</p>
<p>Ben Backwell, CEO of GWEC, said, “The fact that tier one suppliers gained greater market share in a year when the new installation declined by 3% reinforces that leading global suppliers’ hard work, focusing on product innovation and value-added solutions, has finally paid off. While there are 8 Chinese manufacturers included in the top 15, the picture changes dramatically when sales in the domestic Chinese market are excluded. Aside from Goldwind, none of the Chinese suppliers installed sufficient new wind capacity in the overseas market for any to be included in the top 10 rankings in 2018.”</p>
<p>Feng Zhao, Strategy Director of GWEC, said, “In 2018 we saw further consolidation taking place on the supply side. The severe competition resulting from the transition from Feed-in-Tariff to auctions pushed another seven small turbine OEMs out of the market last year. This trend is likely to continue in China – although there are 19 local turbine OEMs active in this country, the upcoming auction and the central government’s goal to reach grid parity in the early 2020s will certainly force many small and medium-sized Chinese turbine vendors to give up their wind turbine production activities”.</p>
<p>Solar installations in 2019 are expected to be double compared to the wind as costs for solar have declined rapidly.</p>
