Renewable energy solutions provider Suzlon Group has secured an order to supply wind turbine generators (WTG) for a 400 MW wind energy project from JSP Green Wind, part of Jindal Renewables.

Suzlon will supply 127 WTGs with Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) towers and a rated capacity of 3.15 MW each to the wind project to be executed in the Koppal region of Karnataka.

The electricity generated from the project will be used for captive consumption in Jindal’s steel plants in Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

Suzlon’s total order book now stands at close to 5.4 GW.

All engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work will be executed using internal resources and facilities.

In September, Suzlon had secured a 1,166 MW order from NTPC Green Energy to install 370 wind turbine generators of the S144 model, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW.

Procuring wind energy from the project will help Jindal Renewables incorporate green energy into the group’s steel manufacturing. Bharat Saxena, President of Jindal Renewables, said, “As part of our commitment to cleaner energy solutions, we are taking breakthrough steps to integrate green energy into steelmaking, reducing the  group’s  overall  carbon  footprint  and  ensuring  long‐term  sustainability.”

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, commented: This groundbreaking collaboration not only redefines industrial sustainability but also aligns with India’s 2070 net-zero vision.”

Jindal Renewables aims to develop around 12 GW of renewable energy assets, storage facilities, and green hydrogen production by 2030.

Recently, Jindal Steel & Power and Jindal Renewables said they would invest in green hydrogen production for steel making in Angul, Odisha. JSPL plans to incorporate green hydrogen into its Direct Reduced Iron units.

In February, Jindal Steel & Power commissioned a 15 MWdc rooftop solar project at its steel manufacturing plant in Angul, Odisha.
