RECPDCL Issues Tender to Augment Transformation Capacity at Khavda
The last day to submit the bids is December 3, 2024

The REC Power Development and Consultancy (RECPDCL) has invited bids to select a transmission service provider to set up an inter-state transmission system (ISTS) to augment transformation capacity at Khavda Power Station 1 (KPS1) and KPS2 in Gujarat (Phase-V Part B1 and Part B2 Program).
The work must be completed within 24 months from the date of allocation.
The last day to submit the bids is December 3, 2024. Bids will be opened on the same day.
KPS1 and KPS2 are crucial to supporting the increasing renewable energy generation in the Khavda region. The 30,000 MW Khavda Renewable Energy Park is under construction in the Kutch District of Gujarat.
Bidders must furnish a non-refundable document fee of ₹500,000 (~$5,965).
The selected bidders must remit ₹150 million (~$1.8 million) as a contract performance guarantee within ten days of the date the letter of intent is issued.
KPS1 is already equipped with three transformers of 1500 MVA each, and additional capacity is being added to manage power injections from projects like Adani Green Energy, which is set to add 810 MW by 2025. To handle the total expected connectivity of 5,260 MW, further transformer augmentation is needed to maintain compliance, ensuring reliable operation even if one unit fails.
KPS2, similarly, is seeing significant demand, with over 9,000 MW of connectivity applications received, including a 1775 MW project by GIPCL. The current plan at KPS2 includes four transformers of 1500 MVA each, but more capacity is required to accommodate the full load. Without these upgrades, the stations would be at risk of overloading, which could lead to inefficiencies or disruptions in power transmission.
The selected bidder must augment transformation capacity at KPS1 by 1×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV ICT on Bus section-II and 1×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV ICT on Bus section-I at KPS2.
Recently, RECPDCL invited bids to set up an ISTS to evacuate up to 3.5 GW of renewable energy from Lakadia in Gujarat.
Earlier, RECPCDL issued a tender to establish an ISTS to evacuate 4 GW of power from the Renewable Energy Zone Phase V (Sirohi-Nagaur Complex) in Rajasthan.
