					</table><p>Clean energy solutions provider Engie North America (<a href="https://www.engie-na.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ENGIE</a>) and solar recycling company <a href="https://www.solarcycle.us/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SOLARCYCLE</a> are set to pilot a new “precycling” model by incorporating module and component recycling provisions directly into the power purchase agreements of four upcoming solar projects.</p>
<p>The precycling provision will help developers incorporate end-of-life material recycling at the start of the project’s lifecycle.</p>
<p>The agreements guarantee that approximately one million modules from 375 MW of solar projects across the U.S. Midwest will be recycled at the end of their lifespan, promoting the full circularity of the projects.</p>
<p>This collaboration aims to ensure that solar modules and system components will have full traceability. It targets meeting the parties’ circularity goals and utilizing SOLARCYCLE’s advanced tracking solutions to return modules and system components to the domestic supply chain, helping to form the next generation of clean energy materials.</p>
<p>SOLARCYCLE estimates that 48 million pounds of material will be diverted from landfills under this provision. All construction waste and system components will be recycled to the maximum extent possible.</p>
<p>ENGIE said this collaboration is part of its focused approach to achieving circularity and reducing its carbon footprint.</p>
<p>The initial projects under this agreement are expected to be completed in the coming few years, adding over 12 GW of solar, wind, and battery storage capacity to ENGIE’s portfolio in North America.</p>
<p>Last year, SOLARCYCLE <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/solarcycle-to-manufacture-solar-glass" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> a $344 million investment in a solar glass manufacturing facility in Cedartown, Georgia, which will utilize recycled materials from retired solar modules to produce new solar glass. The new manufacturing facility is scheduled to commence construction this year and is expected to be operational by 2026.</p>
<p>In June, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/mnre-invites-proposals-to-promote-circularity-in-solar-and-battery-technologies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> proposals for the ‘Innovation Challenge for Circularity in Renewable Energy Technologies – Batteries and Solar Photovoltaic.’ This program emphasizes second-life use and recycling innovations that encourage reuse, repair, refurbishment, remanufacturing, recycling, and recovery of materials from waste solar modules and batteries.</p>
<p>The Central Pollution Control Board <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/cpcb-issues-draft-guidelines-for-solar-waste-collection-and-storage" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued</a> draft guidelines for the collection and storage of waste from solar modules and cells. These guidelines encompass rejects and waste produced during manufacturing, refurbishment, and repair activities. They also include solar modules that sustained damage during transportation, handling, storage, and installation.</p>

The last date for the submission of bids is March 12, 2024. Bids will be opened on the same day. The total capacity is divided into nine packages of 100 MW. Bidders can choose from various configurations, each linked to a specific capacity ranging from 100 MW to 900 MW.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/gujarat-invites-bids-for-75-mw-solar-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Gujarat Industries Power Company has invited bids for engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), and operations and maintenance for three years of a 75 MW grid-connected solar project</strong></a> near its Surat Lignite Power Plant. The last date to submit bids is March 13, 2024. The scope of work includes the development of the solar project along with associated power evacuation equipment to provide grid connectivity to Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation’s 66 kV substation in a nearby village.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/renew-narrows-q3-net-loss/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Independent renewable power producer ReNew Energy narrowed its net loss by 19% to ₹3.2 billion (~$39 million) in the third quarter of the financial year 2024</strong></a> from ₹4 billion (~$48 million) last year, helped by higher tariffs and lower prices of solar modules. ReNew said that the tariffs in auctions, compared to last year, were higher by 14% and 7% for wind and solar, respectively, and the prices of solar modules fell by 60% this year.</p>

The developer must also identify and arrange grid connectivity to the Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation substation. <strong> </strong>The last day to submit the bids is April 2, 2024. <p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ntpc-financial-advisors-solar-project-sri-lanka/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>NTPC has invited bids for the appointment of a financial advisor for a 50 MW solar power project in Sampur, Sri Lanka.</strong></a> Trincomalee Power Company, a 50:50 joint venture between NTPC and Ceylon Electricity Board, Sri Lanka, is developing a 50 MW solar project that is extendable to 135 MW in Sampur in two phases. The first phase of work includes the development of a 50 MW solar project on a build-own-operate basis and a 38 km transmission line on an annuity payment basis.</p>

<p>The new manufacturing facility is scheduled to begin construction this year and will be operational in 2026.</p>
<p>The company said its proprietary recycling technology allows it to extract 95% of the value from used solar modules. This has enabled SOLARCYCLE to sign agreements with 40 of the largest solar companies in the U.S. to reuse and recycle their solar modules.</p>
<p>The glass, which will be sold directly back to the domestic solar manufacturers, is expected to fill a critical gap in the country’s supply chain to build more solar modules in America.</p>
<p>“SOLARCYCLE’s first-of-its-kind facility is a transformational investment for the Polk County community and will help drive its economy for years to come. In Georgia, our strong energy mix is one of the key reasons our state has attracted generational investments in recent years. We will keep working to secure our power supply through exciting projects like this one,” said Governor Brian Kemp.</p>
<p>The company claimed the Georgia facility will position SOLARCYCLE as one of the first manufacturers of specialized glass for crystalline-silicon (c-Si) photovoltaics in the country, with the capacity to make 5-6 GW of solar glass annually.</p>
<p>“There is no question that solar panel manufacturing is booming in the State of Georgia. We are thrilled to join the team and build our recycled solar glass plant in Cedartown,” said Suvi Sharma, CEO and co-founder of SOLARCYCLE.</p>
<p>The U.S. Department of Energy’s (<a href="https://www.energy.gov/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DOE</a>) Director of Solar Energy Technologies Office, Becca Jones-Albertus, confirmed that the DOE has invested $15 million in the company’s research and development efforts in a bid to increase domestic solar manufacturing and recycling under the country’s Inflation Reduction Act.</p>
<p>In 2022, SOLARCYCLE <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/funding-and-ma-roundup-solar-system" target="_blank" rel="noopener">raised</a> $6.6 million in growth funding from renewable energy investors.</p>
<p>As solar recycling gains momentum, a team of researchers at the University of South Wales <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/sustainable-recycling-silver-from-expired-solar-panels" target="_blank" rel="noopener">introduced</a> a new method to recycle solar panels, which could potentially recycle 5 to 50 million kg of silver from cumulative waste by 2050.</p>
