					</table><p>China-based module manufacturer <a href="https://en.risenenergy.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Risen Energy</a> claimed to have achieved a maximum power of 741.456W with a module efficiency of 23.8% in its Hyper-ion HJT solar module.</p>
<p>The module is backed by Risen&#8217;s 100 μm ultra-thin cell technology and low-temperature process, yielding a carbon footprint value that is lower than 400 kg equivalent CO2/kWc.</p>
<p>The results achieved by Risen were confirmed by security and sustainability solutions partner <a href="https://www.tuvsud.com/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TUV SUD</a>.</p>
<p>The company also said its Hyper-ion HJT module has a stable temperature coefficient and increased bifaciality of up to 85% ±10%, capable of maintaining its power output above 90% even after 30 years of use.</p>
<p>Risen Energy&#8217;s Senior Research and Development Director Even Liu said, &#8220;As the latest HJT product, Hyper-ion has the best combination of both improvement and reductions, high power generation, high efficiency and reliability, low degradation, and low-temperature coefficient, low CFP and low levelized cost of energy (LCOE). Risen Energy will continue to innovate and improve our products to promote the era of carbon neutrality.&#8221;</p>
<p>Apart from the use of ultra-thin wafers, other technological innovations like zero busbar technology, hyper-link interconnection, and embedding of encapsulated material helped Risen boost the efficiency of its new HJT series module.</p>
<p>According to Risen, the alloy frame of the HJT hyper-ion module is strong, with the tear-resistant capability of the steel material increased by 20%, which is better than the conventional metal frames.</p>
<p>With rising demand for improved power and efficiency, the global solar sector is focussed on streamlining improved photovoltaic (PV) systems like the heterojunction technology which offers a unique feature of bifaciality.</p>
<p>China has been leading in HJT innovation with continuous research resulting in enhanced power output.</p>
<p>Unlike conventional solar PV technologies like the crystalline silicon or passivated emitter and rear contact, the modules manufactured using HJT technology are tough and damage resistant which offers manufacturers and suppliers relief in terms of transporting the modules from peer to peer.</p>
<p>In January 2023, the Chinese module maker <a href="https://mercomindia.com/chinese-firm-development-710-wp-heterojunction-module/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that its 710 Wp HJT hyper-ion module achieved an efficiency surpassing 22.5% and has an improved stable temperature coefficient and a high bifaciality of up to 85% with a band of ±5%, enabling power output of over 90% even after 30 years of use.</p>
<p>Last December, China-based LONGi Green Energy Technology claimed to have <a href="https://mercomindia.com/longi-says-efficiency-in-heterojunction-silicon-solar-cells/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">achieved</a> a record efficiency of 26.8% for its HJT silicon solar cells on full-size silicon wafers through mass production.</p>

Risen Energy Achieves 23.8% Efficiency in Hyper-ion Heterojunction Module

					</table><p>Four U.S-based independent power producers have formed a consortium to bolster the country&#8217;s rapid scaling of domestic solar manufacturing. They plan to spend over $6 billion on solar modules to support the expansion of the domestic supply chain.</p>
<p>The developers&#8217; consortium comprising <a href="https://www.aes.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AES Corporation</a>, <a href="https://www.clearwayenergygroup.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Clearway Energy Group</a>, <a href="https://ccrenew.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cypress Creek Renewables</a>, and <a href="https://desri.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">D.E. Shaw Renewables</a> would purchase over 6 GW of crystalline silicon solar modules annually from local manufacturers.</p>
<p>The proposed purchase aims at driving the much-needed growth of the solar sector in America.</p>
<p>In a statement, the consortium said accelerating solar project deployment is essential to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees. While the White House&#8217;s recent action to support domestic manufacturing is a step toward addressing supply chain challenges, the consortium recognizes that more must be done to provide lower-cost, reliable, clean power to American families and businesses.</p>
<p>Earlier this month, President Joe Biden <a href="https://mercomindia.com/president-biden-waives-duties-solar-module-imports/">announced</a> a 24-month duty exemption on solar modules and cells imported from Cambodia, Malaysia, and Thailand to ensure that the U.S. solar industry has access to a sufficient supply of the components. The administration also announced that it would collaborate with local bodies, including municipal utilities, to achieve around 100 GW of domestically manufactured solar modules.</p>
<p>The government authorized the Defense Production Act (DPA), empowering the Department of Energy to take sector- and consumer-centric initiatives to rapidly expand critical clean energy technologies in the country.</p>
<p>Clearway Energy Group CEO Craig Cornelius said, &#8220;By enacting legislation pending before Congress, policymakers can enable our consortium&#8217;s goal to broaden the range of products we use from American sources and increase our domestic solar manufacturing workforce. We look forward to partnering with federal, state, and local partners in government to fulfill this goal over the years ahead.&#8221;</p>
<p>According to a survey <a href="https://mercomindia.com/solar-companies-us-delay-module-deliveries/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">conducted</a> recently by the Solar Energy Industry Association in April, the probe initiated by the U.S. Department of Commerce into solar imports negatively affected 90% of domestic solar manufacturing companies.</p>
<p>Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam came under scrutiny for <a href="https://mercomindia.com/us-probe-solar-module-imports-southeast-asia/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">using</a> China-made components to assemble panels in America after U.S-based Auxin Solar filed alleged discrepancy in the assembling process.</p>

Developers Consortium to Buy Over 6 GW of Modules Annually to Support Local Manufacturing

<p>Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (<a href="https://www.bhel.com/bhel-landing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">BHEL</a>) has floated a tender for the manufacture and supply of about 32 MW of crystalline photovoltaic (PV) solar modules. The modules would be exported to Djermaya in the African nation of Chad.</p>
<p>The government enterprise said that an earnest money deposit (EMD) was not required for this tender. It expects all 32,102 kW of modules to be delivered by April 31, 2021. The last date for the submission of bids is October 26, 2020.</p>
<p>The tender documents specified that only Indian module manufacturers with a minimum module manufacturing capacity of 120 MW per year can place bids. Vendors are expected to provide a 10-year product warranty and a 25-year performance warranty for the modules.</p>
<p>It said that the modules could be made with either monocrystalline or multicrystalline modules and must have 72 cells in a 12&#215;6 configuration. However, vendors are permitted to quote only one type of solar module. Preference will be given to modules made in India. The evaluation currency for the tender will be Indian Rupees.</p>
<p>The power output must be 340W and above in a 5W band. The modules are expected to work properly in environments with relative humidity ranging between 15% and 95% and with temperatures between -10°C and 80°C.</p>
<p>Back in July, the Private Infrastructure Development Group <a href="https://mercomindia.com/engineering-services-tender-solar-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">floated</a> a request for proposal for the selection of an owner’s engineer contract for a 32 MW solar power project in the African country of Chad. The project is the first phase of the planned 60 MW Djermaya solar project. Back in 2018, a <a href="https://mercomindia.com/african-consortium-ppa-60-mw-solar-chad/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">consortium</a>, including InfraCo Africa and Smart Energies International, had come together to develop the 60 MW solar project in the country.</p>
<p>BHEL was selected as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and operation and maintenance contractor for the project. BHEL will build the Djermaya 32 MW project, as well as the battery energy storage system, the transmission line, and an extension of the Lamadji substation on a turnkey basis. BHEL would also provide the solar modules to be used in the project.</p>
<p>According to Mercom’s <a href="https://mercomindia.com/product/india-solar-tender-tracker/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">India Solar Tender Tracker</a>, BHEL has so far floated 14 tenders, including tenders for PV cells, the balance of system components, and floatation platforms since 2019. In June, it <a href="https://mercomindia.com/bhel-procure-12-million-multicrystalline-solar-cells/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">invited</a> bids to manufacture and supply 12 million solar cells.</p>

BHEL Floats Tender for the Supply of Modules for a 32 MW Solar Project in Africa

<p>The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has invited bids for solar module package for the development of Anta solar project located at Baran district in Rajasthan.</p>
<p>Elaborating on this tender for module package, an NTPC official told Mercom, “Module package bid is for the supply of solar modules. Normally, we invited bid for solar projects EPC services while in this case we are procuring solar modules separately from EPC contract bids. So, we are inviting two bids – one of solar module supply and the other for EPC services.”</p>
<p>The scope of work includes manufacturing, supply, packing and forwarding, transportation, unloading storage, installation, and commissioning of solar PV modules.</p>
<p>The specification for the solar PV modules given is crystalline with a minimum 300Wp nominal rating and thin film based with a minimum 112.5Wp nominal rating.</p>
<p>The last date for the submission of techno-commercial bids is October 4, 2018. The techno-commercial bid will open on October 5, 2018. The date for reverse auction will be decided later by the NTPC.</p>
<p>Bid security amount is ₹50 million (~$0.07 million) and a bidder must have manufactured and supplied solar PV modules of cumulative capacity of 50 MWp. The average annual turnover of a bidder should not be less than ₹2,370 million (~$33.15 million) during the last three financial years.</p>
<p>Solar PV cells and modules for this package can be sourced from anywhere in the world.</p>
<p><a href="https://mercomindia.com/seci-reduces-solar-manufacturing-tender-size/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Recently</a>,  <a href="http://seci.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SECI</a> reduced the capacity of the manufacturing tender. In May 2018, it had tendered 5 GW of manufacturing capacity to be set up across the country. The capacity has now been reduced to 3 GW. The goal of the tender was to strengthen the domestic solar supply chain by incentivising domestic manufacturing capacity establishment by awarding PPAs to build projects.</p>
<p>However, NTPC’s tender allows the sourcing of modules from anywhere in the world.</p>
<p><a href="https://mercomindia.com/ntpc-2-gw-solar-auction-results/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Earlier</a>,  National Thermal Power Corporation (<a href="http://ntpc.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NTPC</a>) auctioned 2 GW of interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in which <a href="https://www.acme.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ACME Solar</a> quoted the lowest (L1) tariff of ₹ 2.59 (~$0.0372)/kWh to develop 600 MW. <a href="http://www.shapoorjipallonji.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Shapoorji Pallonji</a> and <a href="https://www.azurepower.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Azure Power</a> matched the L1 tariff to develop 500 MW and 300 MW respectively.</p>

NTPC Issues Solar Module Package Tender for Anta Solar Project in Rajasthan

<p>The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) tendered 14 MW of solar to be installed on 37 stations and other premises owned by Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation (NMRCL). The bid-submission deadline is July 15, 2017.</p>
<p>The capacity tendered consists of both rooftop and ground mount solar projects. The MMRCL has regulated, the size of each solar PV cluster will be in the range of 100 kW to 500 kW or more on each rooftop unit, depot, boundary wall and track wall which will be separately connected with the grid at different locations and will have separate energy meters.</p>
<p>The project will be developed on RESCO mode and the scope of work includes, design, engineering, manufacture, supply, storage, civil work, erection, testing, commissioning of the rooftop, boundary walls and ground mounted solar PV projects. The successful bidder will also provide operation and maintenance services for a 25-year period.</p>
<p>The MMRCL has fixed Rs.6 (~$0.092)/kWh as upper levelized tariff limit for this tender. Bidders will have to provide year on year tariff for 25 years starting from the date of commissioning of the project. Tariff stream quoted by the bidder will be then levelized with a discounting rate of 11 percent.</p>
<p>The project will be funded by equity from Government of India and Government of Maharashtra besides, bilateral funding from KfW (Germany) and AFD (France).</p>
<p>The project had been <a href="https://mahametrorail.etenders.in/tender_document/tender_75/tender_document/tender_notice_document/1484058390TenderDocument.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">initially tendered</a> in January 2017.</p>

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Tenders 14 MW of Solar

<p>The West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) tendered a 10 MW solar project to be developed at Anta and Saridi block in Bagmundi district of West Bengal. The bid-submission deadline is July 3, 2017.</p>
<p>The scope of work includes, design, engineering, manufacture, procurement, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the project. The successful bidder will also have to provide warrantee obligation with five years O&amp;M for the project.</p>
<p>According to Mercom’s <em>India Solar Project Tracker</em>, in 2017, the WBSEDCL tendered 25.285 MW of solar prior to this tender.</p>
