					</table>The Solar Energy Corporation of India (<a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/seci-solar-project-storage-ladakh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SECI</a>) has invited bids for a 4.12 MW cumulative capacity solar power project in the IIT Kharagpur campus (Zone III), West Bengal, under the renewable energy service company (RESCO) model.
The cumulative capacity includes 2900 kW rooftop capacity, 1000 kW ground-mounted capacity, and 225 kW elevated structure capacity.
The last date to submit bids is January 3, 2025. Bids will be opened on January 8.
The project must be commissioned within nine months.
Bidders must submit a bid processing fee of ₹6,000 (~$70.94).
Bidders must submit an earnest deposit of ₹3.71 million (~$43,865).
Bidders must submit a performance guarantee of ₹ 3.38 million (~$39,963)/MW.
Bidders must pay service charges of service charges ₹1.35 million (~$15,961.7)/MW.
Bidders must quote a ceiling tariff of ₹ 4.9(~$0.057)/kWh for the total capacity.
The scope of work involves setting up a grid-connected rooftop solar project consisting of the solar array, module mounting structure, power conditioning unit consisting of a maximum power point tracker, inverter, controls and &amp; protections, interconnect cables, junction boxes, distribution boxes, and switches. The solar array must be mounted on a suitable structure, and the solar system must be installed without a battery.
It also involves operation and maintenance for 25 years.
Solar modules used in grid-connected solar power systems must be warranted for peak output wattage and must be at least 90% at the end of ten years and 80% at the end of 25 years. Each solar module must use a radio-frequency identification tag.
Bidders will be levied liquidated damages at 50% of the tariff for the shortfall in energy supply.
Bidders must use commercially established and operational technologies to minimize the technology risk and achieve timely project commissioning.
The modules used must be from the Approved List of Modules and Manufacturers.
Bidders must have a minimum net worth of ₹37.13 million (~$439,007) in the last financial year.
Recently, SECI <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/seci-2-mw-rooftop-solar-four-cities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids to select developers to install 2,112 kW of grid-connected rooftop solar systems under the RESCO mode.
In October, SECI <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/seci-solar-projects-tranche-xviii" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids to select developers to set up 1,000 MW of inter-state transmission system-connected solar power projects (Tranche XVIII).

					</table>Scientists at the <a href="http://www.iitkgp.ac.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur</a>, have used nanomaterials to develop sodium-ion (Na-ion) batteries and supercapacitors that can be integrated into e-cycles for rapid charging.
The aim of the research supported by the Department of Science and Technology (<a href="https://dst.gov.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DST</a>) is to reduce the cost of e-cycles using low-cost technologies based on Na-ion. A few patents on using these Na-ion-based batteries in e-cycles are already in the pipeline.
The research on supercapacitors was published in the <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/journal-of-power-sources" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Journal of Power Sources</a>.
Of the fewer suitable materials used to manufacture batteries, sodium has a high natural abundance on the planet. The availability of sodium also makes it a potential alternative to largely used lithium-ion batteries, as Na-ion-based batteries have enhanced performance and can be scaled up to mass production for industrial operations.
The researchers synthesized sodium iron phosphates and sodium manganese phosphates (NaMnPO4) to obtain sodium-ion batteries and supercapacitors. Compared to other reported metal oxides, the electrochemical performance of NaMnPO4 shows a much more stable tolerance towards varying magnetic fields.
The team is conducting the economic viability of their research. With further study, Na-ion-based e-cycles can be made available to the general public for ₹10,000-15,000 (~$126-$190), making them 25% cheaper than e-cycles based on lithium-ion storage technologies.
During the study, the IIT team discovered that the sodium-ion cell could be discharged to zero volts, similar to a capacitor, making it a safer alternative than many other storage technologies. The quick charging feature of the Na-ion batteries encouraged the team to integrate power e-cycles with sodium batteries, an easy and affordable substitute for lithium-ion.
The team also observed that disposing of Na-ion-based batteries is simple, which would help promote green transport and address the challenges of climate change.
In another experiment, scientists at the Beijing University of Technology <a href="https://mercomindia.com/researchers-develop-stable-anode-material/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">claimed</a> to have synthesized a series of phosphorous(P)-/tin (Sn)-based composites that have anode materials with higher capacity and improved stability. The synthesis enabled a sodium-ion battery with a capacity retention of 97.7% after 50 cycles.
Indian scientists <a href="https://mercomindia.com/indian-scientists-supercapacitors-electrode-material/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">developed</a> a low-cost supercapacitor device in 2020, which exhibited excellent capacitive retention using a novel electrode material. The team developed a scalable and affordable electrochemical process to synthesize Nickel Cobaltite (NiCo2O4) electrodes containing nanosheet structures incorporated with oxygen vacancies as an active material for hybrid supercapacitors.

Indian Scientists Develop Sodium-ion Batteries for E-Cycles Using Nanomaterials

The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (<a href="http://www.iitkgp.ac.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">IIT-KGP</a>), has issued a tender for the annual maintenance contract for two rooftop solar power projects with a cumulative capacity of 200 kW (2&#215;100 kW) located at LLR Hall and Mathematics department of the campus.
The last date for the submission of the bids is February 5, 2020. The approximate cost of the work is ₹1,27,862 (~$1,795.89). The interested bidders need to pay ₹2,557 (~$35.91) as the earnest money deposit (EMD).
The tender adds that each project must be cleaned once a week for 52 weeks and during emergencies. The date of work will start from the seventh day of the issue of the work order.  The bids will remain valid for 120 days from the date of submission.
According to the tender document, the prospective bidders should have done at least one similar work of at least 80% of the estimated cost or two of 60% value or three works of at least 40% of the cost. The projects should have been for any government, semi-government, public sector undertakings.
As part of the contract, the successful bidder must use equipment that is certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and in line with the government’s quality control regulations.
In September 2019, <a href="https://mercomindia.com/iit-kharagpur-install-solar-campus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mercom</a> reported that IIT Kharagpur had issued a tender to install grid-connected solar energy projects totaling 1,100kW at its campus. Before this, the college had installed a 1,200kW solar project which was developed on the rooftop of the university.
IITs have been leading the trend of educational institutions in the country going solar.
For instance, in <a href="https://mercomindia.com/iit-kanpur-smart-grid-pilot-solar-pv/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">August 2019</a>, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, floated an expression of interest (EoI) for three smart grid field pilots combining renewable sources (solar and biomass) and storage (Lithium-ion and flow batteries). This is part of a project called U.S.-India Collaborative for Smart Distribution System with Storage.
Earlier, the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, <a href="https://mercomindia.com/iit-delhi-floats-tender-solar-hybrid-odisha/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">floated</a> a 15 kW tender for a solar hybrid system with back-up provision. The system is to be installed at Bilaput, in the sub-district of Koraput in Odisha.
In <a href="https://mercomindia.com/iit-indore-campus-422kw-rooftop-solar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">December 2018</a>, IIT Indore joined the league of green campuses in the country by installing a 422 kW solar rooftop power system on its premises. The project was commissioned by BVG India Ltd, an integrated services company.

IIT Kharagpur Issues Maintenance Tender for 200 kW of Rooftop Solar Systems

The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IITKGP) is looking to install grid-connected solar energy projects totaling 1,100 kW at its campus.
The institution has issued a tender for the design, manufacture, testing, inspection, forwarding, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of the solar projects for five years. After the fifth year, the project would be handed over the institute.
These projects are expected to be installed on car and bike parking areas and the boundaries of parks. Once commissioned, the projects would be connected to a low voltage grid supply.
The system design for the projects has to be approved by IITKGP before its implementation. The estimated cost of construction for the solar project is around ₹69.8 million ($970,000) as per the tender document.
The projects should be completed within 270 days. The earnest money deposit for bidders has been set at ₹1.4 million ($200,000). The pre-bid meeting for the tender will take place on September 17, 2019, and the closing date of the bid is October 16, 2019.
According to the tender documents, IITKGP has already installed a 1,200 kW solar project which was developed on the rooftop of the university.
