<p>There have been 250.1 million smart and energy efficient LED bulbs distributed under the Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) program as of July 12, 2017.</p>
<p>The Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New &amp; Renewable Energy and Mines, Mr. Piyush Goyal, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha stated, “as of July 12, 2017, over 25.01 crore smart and energy efficient LED bulbs have been distributed under the UJALA program and 26.90 lakh LED street lights have been installed in 25 states and union territories under the Street Lighting National Program (SLNP).”</p>
<p>The estimated annual energy savings and estimated reduction of greenhouse gases as a result of the distribution of these programs, are 34.29 billion units and 27.56 million tons of CO2 saved per year.</p>
<p>Mercom <a href="https://mercomindia.com/90-million-led-bulbs-distributed-ujala-program-financial-year-2015-2016/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">previously reported</a> that during FY 2015-16 under the UJALA program, about 90 million LED bulbs were distributed by Energy Efficiency Services Limited, resulting in an estimated energy saving of 11.719 billion kWh per year.</p>
<p>The UJALA program was launched in 2015, with the target of replacing 770 million incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs.</p>
