					</table><p>There has been an increase in wind-solar hybrid projects to meet the round-the-clock renewable energy demand in India.</p>
<p>The lowest tariff discovered in wind-solar hybrid auctions came in at ₹3.07 (~$0.0368)/kWh, 21% higher than the lowest tariff of ₹2.53 (~$0.0304)/kWh in 2022. The tariff increase was driven by the wind turbine shortage and the rise in wind project costs.</p>
<p>Here is the list of the lowest wind-solar hybrid tariffs discovered in auctions during 2023, according to Mercom India Research:</p>
<p><strong>#1 &#8211;</strong> The lowest tariff of ₹3.07 (~$0.0368)/kWh was <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/amp-india-cesc-wind-solar-hybrid-tender" target="_blank" rel="noopener">quoted</a> by Amp Energy India in the auction to develop 150 MW of the interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind-solar hybrid projects by Kolkata-based power utility company CESC.</p>

<p><strong>#2 –</strong> The next lowest tariff of ₹3.27 (~$0.0392)/kWh was <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/juniper-green-tata-renewable-win-225-mw-hybrid-auction" target="_blank" rel="noopener">quoted</a> by Juniper Green Energy for 75 MW in Tata Power’s auction to develop and procure power from 225 MW of grid-connected intrastate and interstate wind-solar hybrid power projects with a greenshoe option of 225 MW on a long-term basis. Tata Power Renewable Energy won 150 MW out of the quoted capacity of 225 MW at ₹3.28 (~$0.0393)/kWh under the bucket-filling method.</p>

<p><strong>#3 &#8211; </strong>Solalite Power (O2 Power) and Sprng Energy <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ntpcs-1-5-gw-wind-solar-auction" target="_blank" rel="noopener">quoted</a> the lowest tariff of ₹3.35 (~$0.0402)/kWh to win 300 MW and 250 MW, respectively, to win NTPC’s auction to set up 1,500 MW of ISTS-connected wind-solar hybrid power projects anywhere in India. ACME Cleantech Solutions and Juniper Green won 300 MW and 230 MW by quoting ₹3.36 (~$0.0404)/kWh. Avaada Energy won 24 MW out of the quoted capacity of 300 MW at ₹3.37 (~$0.0405)/kWh. Out of the total 1,500 MW bid capacity, only 1,104 MW was allotted. According to Mercom sources, the aggregate bids received were for only 1,380 MW. The auction capacity was reduced accordingly to 1,104 MW. It was calculated as aggregate bid capacity x 0.8.</p>

NTPC Renewable Energy, Project Nine Renewable Power (Ayana Power) won 500 MW and 300 MW, respectively, by quoting ₹4.10 (~$0.0492)/kWh. TEQ Green Power XIII (O2 Power) won 60 MW, quoting ₹4.27 (~$0.0512) kWh.</p>

<p><strong>#5 – </strong>Amp Energy India <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/amp-energy-renew-hero-2-gw-hybrid-tender">quoted</a> ₹4.64 (~$0.0557)/kWh to win 100 MW in the Solar Energy Corporation of India auction for developing 1,200 MW of the ISTS-connected wind-solar hybrid power projects (Tranche-VI) with energy storage and assured peak power supply. The other winning bidders ReNew Vikram Shakti (ReNew) won the largest capacity of 600 MW by quoting ₹4.69 (~$0.0562)/kWh, ACME Cleantech Solutions followed with a capacity of 380 MW at ₹4.73 (~$0.0568)/ kWh, while Hero Future Energies won 120 MW at a tariff of ₹4.72 (~$0.0566)/ kWh.</p>

Lowest Wind-Solar Hybrid Tariffs in India During 2023 [Infographics]

					</table><p><a href="https://www.amp.energy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Amp Energy India</a> won the Kolkata-based power utility company <a href="https://www.cesc.co.in/home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CESC</a>’s auction to develop 150 MW of the interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind-solar hybrid projects.</p>
<p>Amp quoted a tariff of ₹3.07 (~$0.037)/kWh to emerge as the winner.</p>
<p>The tender was <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/west-bengal-bids-150-mw-wind-solar-hybrid-projects" target="_blank" rel="noopener">floated</a> in February this year.</p>
<p>The tender required that each project has a minimum capacity of 50 MW and be commissioned within 24 months from the power purchase agreements (PPA) effective date. The PPAs will be valid for 25 years.</p>
<p>The developer will acquire the land required to set up the project.</p>
<p>Only commercially established and operational technologies minimize the technology risk and achieve timely commissioning of the projects.</p>
<p>CESC had stated that only type-certified wind turbine models listed in the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers will be used for the projects. Also, the solar modules for the project must be from the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.</p>
<p>The declared capacity utilization factor (CUF) should, in no case, be less than 30% annually. The developer should maintain an energy supply to achieve an annual supply corresponding to CUF at least 90% of the declared value and at most 120% of the declared CUF value during the PPA duration.</p>
<p>Amp Energy India <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/amp-energy-renew-hero-2-gw-hybrid-tender" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recently</a> won the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s auction to develop 100 MW of the 1,200 MW of ISTS-connected wind-solar hybrid power projects (Tranche-VI) with energy storage and assured peak power supply across India. Amp Energy India had quoted the lowest tariff of all other winners at ₹4.64 (~$0.05)/ kWh.</p>

Amp Energy India Wins CESC’s 150 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid Tender

<p><strong>Vedanta, a global diversified natural resources company, </strong><a href="https://www.vedantalimited.com/img/media_mentions/press_release/2022/vedanta-ramps-up-renewable-power-sourcing-to-1-gw.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> that it is scaling up its renewable energy sourcing to 1 GW and accelerating the transition of its operations to green energy.</strong> The company invited bids for an additional 500 MW of renewable energy. Vedanta has set a target to achieve 2.5 GW of renewable energy for its operations by 2030. The company has invited bids to supply hybrid renewable power for its manufacturing facilities in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. Vedanta had earlier secured 580 MW of round-the-clock renewable energy through Serentica Renewables.</p>
<p><strong>Ohmium International, a green hydrogen company, is </strong><a href="https://www.ohmium.com/news/ohmium-and-amp-energy-india-collaborate-on-400mw-of-green-hydrogen" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>collaborating</strong></a><strong> with Amp Energy India, an independent renewable power producer, to deploy 400 MW of green hydrogen</strong> <strong>projects.</strong> The deployments, aimed at mid-sized commercial and industrial projects of 25 MW or below, are planned to be installed over the next three years. Amp Energy India will utilize Ohmium’s unique interlocking modular polymer electrolyte membrane electrolyzers, which provide a safe, modular, flexible, easy-to-install alternative to customized electrolyzers.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.lohum.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Lohum</strong></a><strong>, a lithium-ion battery lifecycle management firm, and </strong><a href="https://www.glencore.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Glencore</strong></a><strong>, a globally diversified natural resource company, announced a strategic partnership to advance circularity in the Li-ion battery supply chain.</strong>  Under the alliance, Lohum will supply Glencore with 10,000 metric tons of specialty chemicals for the battery supply chain over the next five years, including cathodes, sulfates, carbonates, and oxides of various metals extracted from spent batteries and other sources. The global partnership will allow both companies to deepen their recycling expertise and support the advancement of a circular economy by supplying raw materials back into the battery supply chain.</p>
<p><strong>Enbridge Inc. </strong><a href="https://www.enbridge.com/media-center/news/details?id=123736&amp;lang=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> it has acquired Tri Global Energy, a leading U.S. renewable project developer, for $270 million in cash and assumed debt.</strong> Additionally, up to approximately $50 million in payments could be made contingent on the successful execution of TGE&#8217;s project portfolio. TGE is currently the third largest onshore wind developer in the U.S., with a development portfolio of wind and solar projects representing more than 7 GW of renewable generation capacity.</p>
<p><strong>Whirlpool Corporation </strong><a href="https://www.whirlpoolcorp.com/whirlpool-corporation-to-reach-100-percent-renewable-electricity-for-u-s-plant-operations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> that it had entered a second wind Virtual Power Purchase Agreement with ENGIE North America to procure 53 MW </strong>of clean, renewable wind energy over 12 years. The agreement is expected to accelerate Whirlpool’s progress towards its commitment to reach Net Zero &#8211; scopes 1 and 2 emissions in its plants and operations by 2030.</p>
<p><strong>Iberdrola </strong><a href="https://www.iberdrola.com/press-room/news/detail/iberdrola-starts-up-spain-first-smart-agrovoltaic-plant-in-toledo" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> the commissioning of the first smart agrovoltaic plant with 40 kW capacity in Spain at the González Byass and Grupo Emperador vineyards in the town of Guadamur, Toledo.</strong> The installation allows the layout of the modules to be adapted to the needs of the vineyards to regulate the incidence of the sun and the temperature using the shade of the panels. The project, called Winesolar, has also involved the collaboration of the advanced technological solutions provider Techedge and the manufacturer of trackers and structures for solar panels, PVH. The production of this pilot plant would be used entirely for self-consumption by the González Byass and Grupo Emperador wineries, which will thus be able to reduce their emissions, make progress in the decarbonization of their activity and reduce their energy costs.</p>

<p><a href="https://amplussolar.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Amplus Solar</strong></a><strong>&#8216;s electric mobility vertical signed a memorandum of understanding with </strong><a href="https://www.mahindraelectric.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Mahindra Electric</strong></a><strong> to procure their Zor Grand, the company’s new electric vehicle. </strong>With this addition, Amplus Solar intends to strengthen its fleet of clean vehicles, offering freight delivery to major e-commerce, on-demand logistics, and other enterprises in the country on various subscription models. The agreement signifies a significant step forward in Amplus Solar’s mission to advance clean mobility solutions to its customers.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.voltup.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>VoltUp</strong></a><strong>, a one-stop battery swapping start-up, announced a partnership with </strong><a href="https://www.adanielectricity.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Adani Electricity</strong></a><strong> and </strong><a href="https://heroelectric.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Hero Electric</strong></a><strong> to boost smart mobility.</strong> Starting with 120 docks in ten locations between Goregaon and Borivali in Mumbai, the partnership will add 50 locations by year-end to cover the western line from Churchgate to Mira-Bhayandar.  The partnership looks to operationalize 500 such battery swapping solutions centers across Mumbai by 2024, catering to over 30,000 riders daily.</p>
<p><strong>Saatvik, a solar photovoltaic (PV) modules manufacturer, </strong><a href="https://saatvikgroup.com/saatvik-associates-with-pv-cycle-to-safeguard-the-environment-by-treating-pv-wastages-globally/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>entered</strong></a><strong> an agreement with a Belgium-based waste management organization, PV Cycle, to treat the waste of damaged Saatvik solar PV modules globally.</strong> The organization offers PV cycle certification and collective and tailor-made waste management and legal compliance services for companies and waste holders worldwide. Saatvik’s product portfolio includes mono perc, bifacial, and polycrystalline solar PV modules that are now certified by the PV Cycle to reduce wastage and safeguard the environment.</p>
<p><strong>Vena Energy, a renewable energy company, </strong><a href="https://www.venaenergy.com/news/vena-energy-to-expand-the-development-of-offshore-wind-projects-in-taiwan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> that it would launch two offshore wind projects, Wei-Na and Wei-Long, with a total capacity of 1.8 GW</strong>, to participate in auctions under Taiwan Phase 3 Offshore Wind Zonal Development. The 1,200 MW Wei-Na offshore wind project will be located 20 kilometers off the coast of Miaoli County, with a site area of about 126 square kilometers and a water depth of about 52-78 meters. The 600 MW Wei-Long offshore wind project will be located 43 kilometers outside Changhua county and span an area of approximately 76 square kilometers, with a depth of about 40-62 meters. The two offshore wind projects are expected to use large wind turbines with a single capacity of 14 MW to 20 MW.</p>
<p><strong>Tata Power </strong><a href="https://www.tatapower.com/media/PressReleaseDetails/1972/tata-power-transforming-green-mobility-landscape-sets-up-450-ev-charging-points-across-350-national-highways" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> that it has set up a total of 450+ EZ charging points for electric vehicles across 350 + national highways.</strong> Tata Power EZ Charging Points have been installed across major national highways, including the longest highway NH 44, which connects J&amp;K to Tamil Nadu, NH 19 connecting Delhi, UP, Bihar, West Bengal, and Jharkhand, and other highways connecting major states across south, north, east and west India like NH 65, NH 48, NH 16, etc. This is in line with the company’s nationwide plan of setting up charging points from north to south, connecting Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from east to west, from Guwahati to Dwarka and Bikaner. The widespread installation of Tata Power EZ Charging Points is expected to make intrastate and interstate (via national highways) travel easy for EV owners. These 450+ EV charging points on the highways are installed at diverse locations like hotels, commercial complexes, and car dealerships across 25+ states and five union territories to provide ease of charging, reduce range anxiety, and ensure seamless green and sustainable mobility.</p>

The association&#8217;s mission is to enable the fast adoption of electric mobility, shape policies and guidelines, and mitigate risks associated with electric mobility. Access to capital is one of India&#8217;s largest constraints and opportunities for the large-scale adoption of electric vehicles. Members of EMFAI have committed to providing this access not only for electric vehicles but also for associated infrastructure and ancillary products.</p>
<p><strong>Energy solutions start-up </strong><a href="https://sheru.se/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Sheru</strong></a><strong> and advanced battery manufacturer </strong><a href="http://jpmgroup.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>JP Minda</strong></a><strong> have signed a memorandum of understanding </strong>to work together on improving battery performance and the deployment of batteries. Sheru would provide Minda access to its Tezz software platform and receive advanced Li-ion batteries from Minda for battery swapping. Sheru Tezz software provides users with data on critical battery parameters such as performance, asset tracking, battery life management, and alerts related to the mechanical and electrical aspects of the asset. It would also enable better servicing of batteries, inventory management, and tracking and demand management.</p>

Daily News Wrap-Up: Amplus Solar Partners with Mahindra to Electrify its Fleet

<p>Here are some noteworthy cleantech announcements of the day from around the world:</p>
<p><strong>The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) </strong><a href="https://egazette.nic.in/WriteReadData/2022/235866.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>granted</strong></a><strong> approval to lay transmission lines for a proposed 300 MW solar project of  Renew Solar Energy (Jharkhand Four) in Bikaner, Rajasthan.</strong> The approval was granted for 25 years under section 164 of the Electricity Act, 2003. Renew Solar Energy will have to submit the requisite clearances to the CEA. In case the route of these transmission lines falls in the Great Indian Bustard habitat, Renew Solar Energy will have to comply with the directions of the Supreme Court with regard to undergrounding of the overhead transmission line or fixing of bird diverters.</p>
<p><strong>NTPC </strong><a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/d04e5a82-6ec9-4a20-bc42-77cc01d6ebc1.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> the commissioning of the second part capacity of 35 MW out of 92 MW Kayamkulam Floating Solar PV Project at Kayamkulam, Kerala. </strong>The first part capacity of 22 MW started commercial operations on March 31, 2022. The installed and commercial capacity of NTPC now stands at 54.65 GW. The group&#8217;s installed and commercial capacity is now 69.02 GW and 68.36 GW.</p>
<p><a href="https://ampenergyindia.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Amp Energy India</strong></a><strong> announced the commissioning of a 45 MW solar open access project in Maharashtra.</strong> Amp now has five operating solar open access projects in Maharashtra, with the last three being co-located. The 45 MW project is expected to supply solar power to Cipla, Eternis Fine Chemicals &amp; Jubilant Ingrevia on a long-term basis. With these five open access solar projects, Amp is serving four corporate customers in Maharashtra to transition to renewables and meet their RE100 goals.</p>
<p><strong>Sungrow, an inverter solution supplier for renewables, </strong><a href="https://en.sungrowpower.com/NewsDetail/2666" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>signed</strong></a><strong> the contract for a 79 MW PV Inverter and 176 MWh battery energy storage system with LAVO, an Australian technology and lifestyle company</strong>, for stage one of the Ginan Solar Project. Sungrow will provide its latest Liquid-Cooled energy storage system to build the DC Coupled Storage System. This project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022. Upon completion, these solar farm owners will be self-sufficient in clean electricity and earn a higher return on investment through peak valley arbitrage. The Ginan Solar Project would provide PV plus battery energy storage systems for the 16 solar farms in Victoria, Australia.</p>
<p><strong>RWE, a Germany-based multinational energy company, </strong><a href="https://www.rwe.com/en/press/rwe-ag/2022-05-17-rwe-successfully-issues-green-bond" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>issued</strong></a><strong> a green bond with a total volume of €2 billion (~$2.11 billion).</strong> The bond was issued in two tranches of €1 billion (~$1.06 billion), with maturities in 2026 and 2030. For the first tranche, the yield-to-maturity amounts to 2.2%, based on a coupon of 2.125% per annum and an issuance price of 99.652%. For the second tranche, the yield-to-maturity amounts to 2.9%, on a coupon of 2.75% per annum and an issuance price of 99.287%. The issuance was met with strong interest from investors. The RWE Green Bond Framework states that wind and solar projects are eligible for green bond funding. This is in line with the United Nations’ Sustainability Goal number 7 to increase the share of renewable energies in the worldwide electricity mix. With its strategy ‘Growing Green,’ RWE is investing €50 billion (~$52.79 billion) in its core business by 2030.</p>
<p><strong>Trina Storage, the vertically integrated battery energy storage (BESS) solutions provider, </strong><a href="https://en.prnasia.com/releases/apac/trina-storage-and-power-electronics-will-jointly-deploy-over-1gwh-of-bess-projects-by-end-of-2023-362067.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> the signing of the Letter of Intention with Power Electronics</strong>, a solar inverter manufacturer, during Intersolar Europe 2022. Trina Storage and Power Electronics will jointly deploy over 1 GWh of battery storage projects using Trina Storage&#8217;s newly launched BESS Elementa by 2023. Elementa is a modular and smart storage solution enabling up to 25% more cycles and costs savings. Trina Storage&#8217;s turnkey solution will include Power Electronics&#8217; latest PCSK battery inverters, which will be launched in the European market, followed by the U.S. market in the future.</p>

Daily News Wrap-Up: CEA Approves Setting Up Transmission for a Solar Project in Bikaner

<p><a href="https://amp.energy/global/india" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Amp Energy India</a> emerged as one of the winners at the Solar Awards 2021 in the recently-held  <a href="https://mercomindia.com/mercom-solar-conference-india-virtual-event-2021/overview/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mercom India Solar Summit 2021</a>. The renewable energy power producer bagged the accolade for creating an impact in the Best C&amp;I Project (ground-mount) category with its company’s 30 MW open access solar project in Maharashtra’s Osmanabad district.</p>
<p>Part of Maharashtra’s largest private solar park under the open access mechanism, the project supplies power to Cipla, a leading pharmaceutical company.</p>
<p>Amp Energy India has installed a module cleaning system at the plant and conducted regular cleaning to avoid soiling losses. The project’s central monitoring system helps track and rectify faults on a second-to-minute basis to avoid losses.</p>
<p>Shriprakash Rai, Head of C&amp;I business, Amp Energy India, received the award on behalf of the company. He said, “The project supplies power to Cipla’s six manufacturing units in Maharashtra and helps save energy costs and bring down CO<sub>2</sub> emissions.”</p>
<p>The plant set up in Dahiwadi village of the region’s Tuljapur town is spread over 115 acres and saw a welcome dip in CO<sub>2</sub> emission of 34150 MT in a year.</p>
<p>The project, which used polycrystalline modules and central inverter technology, had two fixed portrait modules with mounting arrangements. The make of the modules used was Waaree 330 Wp /335 Wp. The number of modules installed totaled 90,240 (330Wp-45360 &amp; 335Wp-44880).</p>
<p>Commissioned on December 31, 2020, the project took shape amid the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic.</p>
<p>Talking about the unique challenges specific to the project, Rai pointed at labor migration, lack of manpower, and interference from local authorities and villagers at the height of the pandemic.</p>
<p>Highlighting the measures devised to navigate the crisis, he said that all the requirements for the safety of site workers were met and monitored for any immediate action required. Since arranging a skilled labor force was difficult due to the lockdown, the Amp Energy India team trained and deployed local unskilled manpower to avoid any work interruption.</p>
<p>Mercom had reported in January this year that Cipla will be <a href="https://mercomindia.com/cipla-procure-open-access-amp-energy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">procuring</a> solar from a 20 MW group captive project in Tuljapur, Maharashtra, in partnership with Amp Energy. In May 2019, Cipla had <a href="https://mercomindia.com/cipla-to-acquire-26-stake-in-amp-solar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">acquired</a> a 26% stake in Amp Solar.</p>
