					</table><p>Germany-based energy technology company <a href="https://press.siemens-energy.com/global/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Siemens Energy</a> has announced a joint venture with <a href="https://www.airliquide.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Air Liquide</a>, a French supplier of industrial gases and services, to produce industrial-scale renewable hydrogen electrolyzers in Europe.</p>
<p>Siemens Energy announced that the joint venture will be headquartered in Berlin, Germany, and will begin hydrogen electrolyzers production by the second half of 2023, aiming to achieve an annual production capacity of 3 GW by 2025.</p>
<p>The collaboration aims to establish a sustainable hydrogen economy while fostering an ecosystem for electrolysis and hydrogen technologies in Europe.</p>
<p>Air Liquide will have a 25.1% stake, and Siemens Energy will hold the majority stake of 74.9% in the venture’s muti-gigawatt factory that produces electrolysis modules (stacks).</p>
<p>The electrolysis modules used in hydrogen production will be based on proton exchange membrane (PEM) technology.</p>
<p>The strategic partnership will benefit from a portfolio of hydrogen projects combining pipelines of both companies to bolster the availability of competitive renewable hydrogen by targeting large industrial-scale hydrogen projects in collaboration with customers.</p>
<p>The Berlin-based factory will cater to the customer base of the rapidly growing market in France and Germany by supplying stacks to both companies. The two companies have also agreed to collaborate in research and development capacities to co-develop next-generation electrolyzer technologies.</p>
<p>Air Liquide’s Normand’Hy electrolyzer project will be the first project to be executed under the joint venture, with a capacity of 200 MW in the first phase— and would be located in Normandy, France. The companies announced that the electrolyzer systems for the project would be assembled in France.</p>
<p>The collaboration is also mulling applying for funding of large projects under the European Union’s Innovation Fund, Green Deal, and Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI)-scheme for hydrogen, funded by the European governments.</p>
<p>Companies across the globe are adopting electrolyzer technologies to produce clean hydrogen. Earlier this month, India-based Greenzo Energy <a href="https://mercomindia.com/daily-news-wrap-up-reliance-merges-renewable-energy-arm/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> allocating ₹3-4 billion (~$38.68 &#8211; $51.57 million) to deploy a 250 MW electrolyzer factory by 2025. The renewable energy company said it would also invest over ₹70 million (~$902,541) in PEM technology to support hydrogen production.</p>
<p>In April 2022, National Thermal Power Corporation Renewable Energy (NTPC REL)<a href="https://mercomindia.com/ntpc-invites-bids-from-electrolyzer-technology-providers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> invited</a> bids to select electrolyzer technology providers for participation in NTPC’s green hydrogen tenders that would be floated in the next two years. The winning bidders would supply the tender with either PEM projects of 400 MW or non-PEM projects of 600 MW.</p>

Siemens Energy and Air Liquide’s JV to Produce 3 GW of Green Hydrogen Electrolyzers by 2025

<p><a href="https://www.airliquide.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Air Liquide</a>, <a href="https://totalenergies.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TotalEnergies</a>, <a href="https://www.vinci.com/vinci.nsf/en/index.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">VINCI</a>, and other international companies have come together to sponsor the creation of the world’s largest fund exclusively dedicated to clean hydrogen infrastructure solutions.</p>
<p>The fund aims to raise funding of €1.5 billion (~$1.74 billion). It has already secured €800 million (~$928.7 million) through initial commitments. Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, and VINCI have committed to invest €100 million (~$116.12 million) each to the fund.</p>
<p>Hy24, a 50-50 joint venture between Ardian and FiveT Hydrogen, will manage the fund. The fund will enhance the growth of the clean hydrogen ecosystem by funding large strategic projects and leveraging industrial and financial players’ alliances.</p>
<p>The fund will invest in the entire value chain of renewable and low carbon hydrogen in the promising regions in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. It will partner with other key projects developers and industry players to invest in large upstream and downstream clean hydrogen projects.</p>
<p>The clean hydrogen infrastructure fund is expected to contribute to developing hydrogen projects with a cumulative value of around €15 billion (~$17.41 billion). The platform will be operational in late 2021, and the first closing is expected before the end of the year.</p>
<p>The fund will have the capacity to unlock large-scale projects under development and enhance the scaling up hydrogen market with solid industrial expertise and significant investment potential.</p>
<p>LOTTE Chemical and AXA will join as anchor investors for the fund. Large international industrial companies from North America and Europe like Groupe ADP, Ballard, EDF, and Schaeffler will join the initiative as non-anchor partners.</p>
<p>Benoît Potier, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Air Liquide, said, “As Air Liquide, we have already committed to invest approximately €8 billion (~$9.29 billion) in the low-carbon hydrogen supply chain by 2035. Our objective is to contribute to the development of the entire value chain from low-carbon hydrogen production to end-uses, investing in the necessary infrastructure with storage and distribution projects. Accelerating on hydrogen development is key to mitigate climate change.”</p>
<p>Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies, said, “We are currently working on several projects, notably to decarbonize the grey hydrogen used in our European refineries by 2030. We are convinced that a collective effort is needed to kick-start the hydrogen sector and take it to scale. We are thus proud to launch and invest in the Clean hydrogen infrastructure fund, which will also give us privileged insights in the sector.”</p>
<p>According to Global Market Insights, the global hydrogen market revenue is <a href="https://mercomindia.com/daily-news-wrap-up-hydrogen-market/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">expected</a> to surpass $300 billion by 2027.</p>
<p>The global pipeline of utility-scale green hydrogen developments &#8211; projects with capacities greater than 1 MW &#8211; now <a href="https://mercomindia.com/over-60-gw-green-hydrogen-projects/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">exceeds</a> 60 GW, with 87% of this capacity coming from gigawatt-scale projects, according to Rystad Energy Research.</p>

Air Liquide, Total to Launch World’s Largest Fund for Clean Hydrogen Solutions

<p>Sasol South Africa Limited (<a href="https://www.sasol.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sasol</a>) and <a href="https://www.airliquide.com/south-africa" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Air Liquide</a> Large Industries, South Africa, have invited bids to procure 1,800 GWh per annum of renewable energy (solar and wind) from independent power producers (IPPs) for the first tranche of their ‘Renewable Energy Implementation Program’.</p>
<p>Sasol and Air Liquide will procure power with the envisaged allocation to Sasol (600 GWh) and Air Liquide (1,200 GWh) per annum.</p>
<p>As per the tender document, the independent power producers will design, finance, build, own, operate, and maintain these renewable energy facilities.</p>
<p>Bidders with the relevant experience and expertise can submit suitably developed projects ready for development and application for a generation license for consideration by the buyers. The individual projects must show a generation capacity of at least 200 GWh per annum to be implemented across South Africa with a targeted commercial operations date from March 2023 to December 2024.</p>
<p>The buyers’ energy demand profile will be optimized in terms of the energy generation profile from the IPP, based on the time of generation, and is expected to result in an annual offset saving, which is the difference between the costs of power supplied by the IPP, compared with the cost of procuring the same amount of energy at the corresponding times from Eskom, a South African electricity public utility, at the Eskom Megaflex Tariff structure price.</p>
<p>The last date to submit the bids is May 21, 2021. The pre-bid meeting will take place on May 7.</p>
<p>To participate in the bidding process, the bidder must provide up to ten examples of their experience in project development, financing, design, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and administration of solar and wind power projects. The examples must be of projects where the bidder or one consortium member were directly involved in the project either as an engineering, procurement, and construction contractor or as a project developer in the last ten years. The project examples must be for solar and wind facilities with a minimum capacity of 40 MW.</p>
<p>The power purchase agreement term will be for 20 years from the commercial operations date. However, the bidder may provide tariffs for shorter terms of 10 or 15 years. The minimum local content requirement for the tender is 40%, and bidders with proven experience in delivering large projects in South Africa will be preferred.</p>
<p>Recently, South Africa <a href="https://mercomindia.com/tender-2-6-gw-of-solar-and-wind-south-africa/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opened</a> the country’s fifth renewable energy bidding window to procure 2.6 GW of clean energy projects. Out of the 2.6 GW capacity, 1.6 GW will be sourced from wind, and 1 GW will be sourced from solar projects under South Africa’s renewable energy independent power producer procurement program.</p>
<p>In August last year, Sasol <a href="https://mercomindia.com/south-africa-sasol-invites-bids-solar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued</a> a request for a proposal to develop two solar projects of 10 MW at its Secunda and Sasolburg facilities. The scope of work included the design, finance, construction, operation, and maintenance of solar projects.</p>
