					</table><p><a href="https://www.acme.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ACME Group</a>, a renewable energy company, and <a href="https://www.ihi.co.jp/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IHI Corporation</a>, a Japan-based integrated heavy industry group, have inked an offtake term sheet for the supply of green ammonia from India to Japan.</p>
<p>The agreement is aimed at contributing to India&#8217;s <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/cabinet-approves-%e2%82%b9197-billion-hydrogen-mission" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Green Hydrogen Mission</a> (NGHM) and Japan&#8217;s net-zero commitment.</p>
<p>The green ammonia supply will originate from ACME&#8217;s 1.2 million metric tons per annum (MMTPA) green ammonia project situated in Gopalpur, Odisha. ACME will supply 0.4 MMTPA of green ammonia from Phase I of the project on a long-term basis.</p>
<p>The first production is expected by 2027. Over its life cycle, the project aims to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by 54 million tons of CO2 equivalent.</p>
<p>With a total investment of $5 billion for the ammonia plant, ACME and IHI plan to compete with the more conventional yet less environmentally friendly blue ammonia.</p>
<p>The collaboration will extend beyond supply, encompassing the entire value chain, from production to logistics, with a focus on creating a robust market for green ammonia in Japan.</p>
<p>Union Minister for <a href="https://powermin.gov.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Power</a> and <a href="https://mnre.gov.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New &amp; Renewable Energy</a> R. K. Singh, who was present at the signing of the term sheet, emphasized that India is poised to become one of the largest manufacturers of these eco-friendly fuels globally, with competitive rates.</p>
<p>Ambassador of Japan to India, Hiroshi Suzuki, highlighted the India-Japan Clean Energy Partnership, as a driving force behind this cooperation.</p>
<p>Ashwani Dudeja, president and director of ACME Group, emphasized India&#8217;s favorable position in developing renewable resources and producing competitive green molecules for both export and domestic consumption.</p>
<p>ACME Group is an independent power producer with over 5 GW of renewable energy capacity. The company said it envisions a portfolio of around 10 MMTPA of green ammonia or equivalent hydrogen/derivatives by 2032.</p>
<p>Recently, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and the Government of India (GoI) <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/india-japan-launch-low-carbon-emission-strategies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an agreement to establish a $600 million India-Japan Fund to address climate and environmental challenges.</p>

The acquisition was facilitated in partnership with investment funds EnCap Investments and Apollo. The transaction involves a multifaceted portfolio encompassing 350 MW of operational assets and 880 MW of assets currently under construction and slated for commissioning by the close of 2024.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/solar-plus-storage-leads-hybrid-power-project-market-in-us" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>At the end of 2022, there were 374 hybrid power projects (each with capacities of 1 MW and above) in the United States, a 25% year-over-year increase, according to Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.</strong></a> The hybrid projects comprise solar plus storage, wind plus storage, wind-solar plus storage, thermal plus storage, and solar plus wind power projects. These projects accounted for 41 GW of generating capacity, a 15% increase from the previous year. The integration of energy storage surged to 5.4 GW/15.2 GWh, representing a 69% and 88% growth, respectively.</p>

<p>The company said its project marks an advancement in the renewable energy landscape of Odisha, positioning it as the state&#8217;s first-ever green hydrogen initiative.</p>
<p>The innovative aspect of this venture lies in the utilization of green hydrogen to produce green ammonia.</p>
<p>The facility&#8217;s production output of Green Ammonia will be exported to both West and East markets through the existing Gopalpur port facilities, boosting the region&#8217;s economic prospects.</p>
<p>The company said the park&#8217;s plug-and-play infrastructure, well-connected logistics, and environmental clearances have garnered substantial interest from investors, furthering the state&#8217;s industrial progress.</p>
<p>Manoj K Upadhyay, Founder and Chairman of ACME Group, said, “This project will help us to offer to <em>Make In India</em> Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia to domestic and international markets at competitive prices.”</p>
<p>Upadhyay also pointed towards the partnership with Japan&#8217;s <a href="https://www.ihi.co.jp/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IHI Corporation</a>, which is a critical aspect of ACME Group&#8217;s strategy for this project. The recent Invest Odisha Summit in Tokyo, led by the Chief Minister of Odisha, yielded a significant outcome as IHI Corporation expressed its intent to invest in the state&#8217;s green energy initiatives.</p>
<p>Last month, ACME Group <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/acme-secures-%E2%82%B940-billion-for-green-project-in-oman" target="_blank" rel="noopener">achieved</a> the financial closure of ₹40 billion (~$488 million) loan from REC Limited, which will be used to kick-start the first phase of the company’s green hydrogen and green ammonia project to be developed in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Duqm, Oman.</p>

<p>The project&#8217;s first phase is expected to produce 100,000 tons of green ammonia annually. The facility&#8217;s capacity is projected to expand to 1.2 million tons annually, with approximately 3.5 GW of electrolyzer capacity.</p>
<p>The undertaking will be powered by a 5.5 GW solar photovoltaic project, ensuring a sustainable and eco-friendly energy supply.</p>
<p>The company said the decision to establish the project in Oman comes as the country positions itself as a hub for clean energy initiatives. The nation&#8217;s commitment to sustainability and its strategic location makes it an ideal setting for such a venture.</p>
<p>Furthermore, the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with REC Limited during the 14th Clean Energy Ministerial and 8th Mission Innovation meeting in Goa, outlining loans amounting to over ₹210 billion (~$2.5 billion) for multiple green energy projects.</p>
<p>Under the MoU, ACME will receive funding for three prominent projects. The first project involves setting up 380 MW of round-the-clock renewable power capacity, ensuring a continuous and reliable energy supply.</p>
<p>The second and third projects entail the establishment of Phase 1 of Green Ammonia projects in Odisha and Tamil Nadu, respectively. Additionally, the agreement includes support for a 600 MWh pumped hydro project.</p>
<p>Shashi Shekhar, the vice-chairman of ACME Group and a retired IAS officer, emphasized that the secured debt for the green hydrogen and green ammonia project in Oman represents a significant milestone for the company. Shekhar said that with construction activities set to commence soon, ACME Group aims to create a state-of-the-art facility that harnesses cutting-edge technologies in the renewable energy domain.</p>
<p>ACME Group&#8217;s green energy solutions encompass solar, wind, hydro pump storage, green hydrogen, and ammonia.</p>

ACME Secures ₹40 Billion for Green Hydrogen & Ammonia Project in Oman

<p>Here are some noteworthy cleantech announcements of the day from around the world:</p>
<p><a href="https://sjvn.nic.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>SJVN</strong></a><strong> signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 200 MW</strong> <strong>of grid-connected solar power project in Bihar.</strong> The PPA has been signed between SJVN and Bihar State Power Holding Company. The tentative cost of the project is 10 billion (~$128.95 million). It is expected to generate 421 million units (MU) in the first year and 10,512 MU over 25 years. The project is scheduled to be commissioned by November 2023.</p>
<p><strong>Tata Motors has </strong><a href="https://www.tatamotors.com/press/press-statement-260522/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>incorporated</strong></a><strong> a wholly-owned subsidiary, &#8216;TML Smart City Mobility Solutions,&#8217; for undertaking urban mass mobility business</strong> <strong>under an own, operate, and maintain model.</strong> With the launch of TML Smart City Mobility Solutions, the company intends to bring specific focus to its electric vehicles segment as a service offering across its portfolio of commercial vehicles. The company already has approximately 650 EV buses plying on roads across various cities in India with a cumulative coverage of more than 35 million kilometers and has operationalized 250+ EV buses in FY22.</p>
<p><strong>Gurugram-based </strong><a href="https://www.acme.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>ACME Group</strong></a><strong> signed an MoU with Japan-based Nippon Yūsen Kabushiki Kaisha (</strong><a href="https://www.nyk.com/english/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>NYK Line</strong></a><strong>) for cooperation in the green ammonia segment</strong>. NYK is a  Japanese shipping company that owns and operates a large fleet of ships, including container ships, bulk carriers, and LNG carriers. As per the MoU, the two companies will explore the possibility of NYK becoming a strategic shipping partner for ACME&#8217;s green ammonia projects. ACME has commissioned a pilot green ammonia project in Rajasthan in India, and its joint venture partner Scatec is developing a 1.2 MTPA green ammonia facility in Oman in phases.</p>
<p><strong>Siemens Gamesa </strong><a href="https://www.siemensgamesa.com/en-int/newsroom/2022/05/051822-siemens-gamesa-press-release-serbia-eps-project" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> that it would supply the 66 MW wind power project in Serbia to be set up by the state utility EPS. </strong>The Kostolac wind project is the first for Siemens Gamesa in the country, and the company will provide 20 SG 3.3-132 turbines to this site in the east of Serbia. The turbines have a rated power of up to 3.65 MW, and when installation is complete in 2024. The contract covers the wind farm&#8217;s turnkey construction, including civil and electrical balance of the plant with sub-station. This will be the first wind project in Serbia financed by German development bank KfW and now the fourth wind park financed by KfW in the region to be implemented by Siemens Gamesa.</p>
<p><strong>Ignacio Galán, Chairman of Iberdrola, <a href="https://www.iberdrola.com/press-room/news/detail/galan-announces-iberdrola-invest-3-billion-green-hydrogen-accelerate-european-green-deal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> at the World Economic Forum in Davos that the company will invest €3 billion (~$3.22 billion) in green hydrogen to accelerate the &#8216;European Green Deal.&#8217;</strong> The Chairman of the Spanish utility highlighted that green hydrogen is set to bring enormous industrial opportunities to energy uses that are difficult to electrify. Iberdrola, on May 13, inaugurated what the company claims to be the largest green hydrogen plant for industrial use in Europe. The plant is expected to produce 3,000 tons of green hydrogen per year, and the company has a project pipeline that will require further investments. The European Green Deal, supported by Iberdrola and agreed in 2020, plans to achieve a 55% emission reduction by 2030 and net-zero by 2050.</p>
<p><strong>Baseload Capital Sweden AB, an investment company that funds the deployment of heat power worldwide, <a href="https://news.cision.com/baseload-capital-sweden-ab/r/baseload-capital-sweden-ab-secures--25-million-debt-facility-to-finance-geothermal-projects,c3570186" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> a €25 million (~$26.87 million) convertible term facility agreement with SDCL Energy Efficiency Income Trust.</strong> The facility will be used to re-finance Baseload’s operational assets and assets in construction or late-stage development and finance future pipeline projects. The facility could be utilized during the availability period and has a ten-year tenor after each drawdown. The funding is eligible when the bond is redeemed.</p>
