Swaraj Tractors to Source Power from Mahindra Susten’s 26 MW Solar Project

Swaraj Tractors, a part of the Mahindra Group’s farm equipment division, has announced it will source renewable energy from Mahindra Susten’s 26 MW group captive solar project in Punjab.
Mahindra Susten will set up the solar project in the Bathinda district. The project will supply clean energy to four Swaraj Tractors’ manufacturing facilities in Mohali and Dera Bassi.
The project is expected to generate approximately 60 million kWh of renewable energy annually. Swaraj Tractors aims to source 50% of its energy needs from renewable energy sources.
According to Mahindra Group’s Sustainability Report 2023-24, the Mahindra Group sourced 33% of its energy needs from renewable sources. Its renewable electricity generation has increased by 6% from 2022-23. Out of 708,951 MWh of energy consumed by the company, 141,110 MWh was renewable energy.
It aims to source 100% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.
The company said its energy efficiency specific consumption decreased by 29% in the auto sector and 10% in the farm equipment sector compared to the previous year.
Mahindra Susten has an installed of over 1.5 GW and projects exceeding 2 GW under development.
Mahindra Susten also secured a capacity of 200 MW in RUVNL’s 1,000 MW solar tender and 300 MW in SJVN’s 1,500 MW solar tender.
The Sustainability Report states that the company’s renewable energy portfolio delivered 2.6 billion kW of green energy to the national grid.
The company says it has executed 4.2 GW of renewable projects as an engineering, procurement, and construction contractor in India and abroad. It also has an independent power producer portfolio of over 3.9 GW.
Mahindra Susten, in collaboration with the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, is developing a 150 MW hybrid renewable power project involving an investment of ₹12 billion (~$143.8 million).
