Svaryu Energy Wins EPC Contract for Coal India Subsidiary’s 25 MW Solar Project

Solar engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company Svaryu Energy has been awarded an EPC contract by Coal India Navikarniya Urja on behalf of Bharat Coking Coal for a 25 MW grid-connected solar project at Bhojudih Coal Washery in Purulia, West Bengal.

The company must also oversee the project’s maintenance and operation for five years.

Svaryu Energy quoted ₹1.63 billion (~$19.8 million) to win the auction and was issued the word order on April 7, 2023.

The company has already submitted performance security of ₹81.5 million (~$992,374).

The tender was floated in March last year.

CIL Navikarniya Urja and Bharat Coking Coal are wholly-owned subsidiaries of Coal India.

Bharat Coking Coal will utilize the generated power from the proposed solar project for captive consumption of the different consumer points in Jharkhand, and the surplus power may be fed to the grid.

If the contractor fails to achieve successful commissioning or commercial operation date of the project within 365 days from the date of commencement (which begins after the expiration of 30 days from the issuance of the letter of acceptance), the company will impose liquidated damages on the contractor.

However, partial commissioning of a minimum allowed capacity of 12.5 MW will be permitted. The performance guarantee test and the operation and maintenance period will commence only when the contractor commissions the full capacity of 25 MW.

If the EPC work is not completed on time, the following compensation terms will apply:

The total 25 MW will be connected to the 132/33 kV substation at Patherdih, Jharkhand.

The efficiency of modules should also be at least 20%, and they must be warranted for their material, manufacturing defects, and workmanship for ten years. The output peak watt capacity should not be less than 90% at the end of 10 years and 80% at the end of 25 years.
