Juniper, ACME, Sembcorp Win SECI’s 600 MW Wind-Solar Auction
The tender was floated in June this year
October 4, 2024
Juniper Green Energy, ACME Solar Holdings, and Sembcorp Green Infra have won Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) auction to develop 600 MW interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind-solar hybrid power projects (Tranche IX).
ACME and Juniper were awarded 300 MW and 150 MW at a tariff of ₹3.25 (~$0.0387)/kWh.
Sembcorp won 150 MW out of the quoted capacity of 300 MW at a tariff of ₹3.26 (~$0.0388)/kWh under the bucket-filling method.
The tender was floated in June this year for an initial capacity of 400 MW and was later increased to 600 MW.
Hybrid power projects must comprise one solar and one wind power component. The rated installed project capacity of either of the two components should be at least 33% of the contracted capacity.
The declared annual capacity utilization factor (CUF) should be at least 30%. The developer should maintain the energy supply to achieve a CUF of at least 90% of the declared value and not more than 120% of the declared CUF value during the 25-year PPA duration.
Only wind turbine models from the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers and modules registered in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy must be deployed in the projects.
Auction announcements fell 73.2% from 25.1 GW in the first quarter (Q1) of 2024 to 6.7 GW in Q2, according to Mercom India Research. Issues around the pricing of domestic solar modules after the reimposition of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers order from April 1, 2024, and a significant pipeline of auctioned projects with unsigned power purchase agreements discouraged developers from participating in new bids, leading to a decline in activity during the quarter.
Juniper Green Energy, Asurarai Renewables, AMPIN Energy, Adyant Enersol, JSW Energy, and Avaada Energy won SECI’s Tranche VIII auction to develop 1,200 MW of ISTS-connected wind-solar hybrid power projects.
