Hyderabad-based integrated solar cell and module manufacturing company Premier Energies has won contracts worth $19.95 million to supply and install solar systems in Benin, West Africa.

Premier Energies will install 750 rooftop solar systems at designated socio-community facilities, including district police stations, educational institutions, health centers, and special border surveillance units.

It will also install more than 4,400 high-efficiency solar streetlights and 650 solar water heaters.

These solar projects are part of the Benin government’s national initiative to expand access to reliable and sustainable clean energy.

Premier Energies will collaborate with the country’s General Directorate of Energy Planning and Rural Electrification to implement the projects.

The Export-Import Bank of India and the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development will provide the financing for the projects through a line of credit.

Premier Energies is working to enhance its cell and module manufacturing capacity to 8.4 GW and 11.1 GW, respectively, by June 2026. It claims it can deliver tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) cells with efficiencies exceeding 25%.

In June this year, Premier Energies commissioned a 1.2 GW TOPCon solar cell manufacturing line in Hyderabad. The company said the new TOPCon line has increased its solar cell production capacity from 2 GW to 3.2 GW. The commissioning is part of its roadmap to deliver high-efficiency, vertically integrated manufacturing, from ingots and wafers to cells and modules.

In May, Premier Energies entered a joint venture agreement with Taiwan-based Sino-American Silicon Products (SAS) to manufacture and sell silicon solar wafers in India. Premier will hold a 74% equity stake in Premier Energies GWC, and SAS will hold the remaining 26%. Premier Energies GWC is currently Premier’s wholly owned subsidiary with an authorized share capital of ₹1 million (~$11,740). The joint venture will establish a 2 GW manufacturing facility in India to produce advanced solar wafers for domestic and global markets.
