PGCIL Wins Project to Evacuate 8 GW Renewable Energy from Gujarat

Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has won a project from REC Power Development and Consultancy to establish an interstate transmission system (ISTS) to evacuate 8 GW of renewable energy from Gujarat.

The project is for evacuating power from the potential Renewable Energy Zone in the Khavda area under Phase-V (8 GW): Part A on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis.

The project involves setting up 6,000 MW, ± 800kV HVDC terminals at KPS2 (Gujarat) and Nagpur (Maharashtra), ± 800kV HVDC Bipole line between KPS2 and Nagpur (~1,200 km) traversing through Gujarat and Maharashtra, and the LILO of Wardha – Raipur 765kV D/c line at Nagpur in Maharashtra.

PGCIL’s scope of work includes establishing, operating, and maintaining the project and completing all its activities, including survey, detailed project report formulation, arranging finance, project management, and securing necessary consents, clearances, and permits. It also includes supplying and installing various associated equipment/ interconnections at terminal stations.

Sterlite Grid 8 and Adani Energy Solutions were among the bidders who qualified for the technical round for the project.

Recently, PGCIL bagged two transmission projects in the Bikaner complex in Rajasthan. The company was declared as the successful bidder under tariff-based competitive bidding to establish an ISTS for the projects, Transmission system for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Ph -IV (Part-3: 6 GW) [Bikaner complex]: Part A, and Transmission system for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Ph -IV (Part-3: 6 GW) [Bikaner complex]: Part B.

The company also won PFC Consulting’s tender to evacuate 5.5 GW of renewable energy from Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer/Barmer complex. The project comprises the establishment of a new 765/400/220kV Barmer-I Pooling substation, 765 kV and 400 kV D/C transmission lines, and associated bay extension works at other existing substations in Rajasthan.
