The Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has won PFC Consulting’s tender to develop a transmission system to evacuate 7 GW of renewable energy from the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat.

PGCIL was chosen as the successful bidder to establish an Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) for the “Transmission System for Evacuation of Power from potential renewable energy zone in Khavda area of Gujarat under Phase-IV (7GW): Part B” on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis through a tariff-based competitive bidding process.

The company has received the letter of intent from PFC Consulting for the project.

The project involves setting up a 765/400/220kV (GIS) substation south of Olpad, 765 kV & 400 kV D/C transmission lines, and associated bay extension works at other existing substations in Gujarat.

The project is expected to be completed within 24 months.

This is the fourth project awarded to PGCIL for the evacuation of power from Khavda.

Apart from PGCIL, Sterlite Grid 25 and Adani Energy Solutions had qualified for the technical bidding round.

The transmission system for evacuating up to 15 GW of power from Khavda is already under implementation/bidding in three phases.

The Phase-IV transmission program has been planned to enable the evacuation of an additional 7 GW (beyond 15 GW) of renewable energy from Khavda.

Recently, PFC Consulting invited bids to select a transmission service provider to establish an inter-state transmission system to evacuate 3 GW of renewable energy from the Raghanesda area in Gujarat under Phase I.

PGCIL also won an ISTS project to evacuate 5.5 GW of renewable energy from the Jaisalmer/Barmer Complex in Rajasthan on a BOOT basis.

In April, PGCIL won contracts to establish three ISTS projects to evacuate 18 GW of power from various renewable energy zones in Rajasthan and Gujarat.
