REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) has handed over Bhadla-III Power Transmission (BIIIPTL) to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) at a cost of ₹64.2 million (~$765,151).

The project involves developing an additional 20 GW transmission system for the evacuation of power from Bhadla-III PS as part of the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone Phase-III on a build, own, operate, and transfer basis.

The project covers the augmentation of Bhadla-III PS with 765/400 kV, 2×1500 MVA, and 400/220 kV, 2×500 MVA Interconnecting Transformers and associated works.

The project is targeted for implementation in 18 months.

PGCIL emerged as the Transmission Service Provider through a Tariff-based Competitive Bidding process conducted by RECPDCL.

PGCIL must establish, operate, and maintain the project. The scope of work includes surveys, detailed project report formulation, arranging finance, project management, securing approvals, land compensation, design, engineering, construction, and commissioning.

Pursuant to emerging as the transmission service provider, PGCIL acquired 100% shares of BIIIPTL, making it a complete subsidiary.

The aggregate acquisition value of ~₹64.2 million (~$ 765,151) also includes 50,000 equity shares at par at ₹10 (~$0.12) each, along with assets and liabilities of the company.

In August 2024, PGCIL bagged two power transmission projects in Rajasthan through tariff-based competitive bidding. These projects are built to evacuate 5.5 GW of power from renewable energy zones in the state.

Earlier, PGCIL bagged two power transmission projects in Rajasthan through tariff-based competitive bidding. These projects are built to evacuate 8.1 GW of power from solar energy zones in the state.

The Central Electricity Authority recently released a draft amendment to the “Manual on Transmission Planning Criteria, 2023.” The document, effective from April 1, 2023, outlines the planning procedures and criteria for developing the electricity transmission system in India.
