PGCIL and DRAIPL Bag 3.5 GW Renewable Energy Transmission Project in Rajasthan

The Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) and Dineshchandra R. Agarwal Infracon (DRAIPL) have won Parts A and B of REC Power Development and Consultancy’s (RECPDCL) transmission project to evacuate 3.5 GW of power from Rajasthan’s renewable energy zone.
PGCIL and DRAIPL were declared as the successful bidders under tariff-based competitive bidding to set up an inter-state transmission system (ISTS) for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Ph-IV (Part-4: 3.5 GW): Part A and B, respectively, on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis.
The tender was issued on July, 2024.
Part A
Apart from PGCIL, Sterlite Grid 32 and Adani Energy Solutions qualified in the technical bid round.
The scope of the project comprises the establishment of a 765/400 kV substation near Ghiror, Mainpuri district in Uttar Pradesh, 765 kV and 400 kV transmission lines traversing through Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, and augmentation and bay extension works at under-construction and existing substations in the two states.
Part B
Apart from DRAIPL, PGCIL, Sterlite Grid 32, and Adani Energy Solutions qualified in the technical bid round.
The scope of work comprises the establishment of a 765/400 kV, 2×1500 MVA substation near Merta (Merta-II Substation) along with 2×240 MVAr (765 kV) & 2×125 MVAr (420 kV) bus reactor.
The scope of work for Parts A and B covers establishing, operating, and maintaining the project and completing the survey, detailed project report formulation, arranging finance, project management, consents, clearances, and permits, land compensation, design, engineering, equipment, material, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Solar Energy Corporation of India have identified renewable energy zones in eight states with a total capacity of 181.5 GW for implementation by 2030. This includes 75 GW renewable energy potential in Rajasthan, comprising 15 GW wind and 60 GW solar.
In October, PGCIL won RECPDCL’s transmission tenders to evacuate 12 GW of power from the renewable energy zone Phase IV in Rajasthan.
In the same month, it also won a project from RECPDCL to establish an ISTS to evacuate 8 GW of renewable energy from Gujarat.
