MENA Weekly Roundup: Tunisia to Develop 500 MW Solar Projects

The Energy Ministry of Tunisia granted licenses to four international firms to build solar projects with a cumulative capacity of 500 MW for 1.2 billion dinars ($386 million). France-based Qair International SAS will build two projects with a cumulative capacity of 300 MW. French company Voltalia will develop a 100 MW solar project. Norway’s Scatec and Japan’s Aeolus will jointly develop a 100 MW project. The country aims to generate 35% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.

Kuwait and China signed a framework agreement detailing their cooperation on renewable energy. The agreement established a plan for the third and fourth zones of the Al-Shagaya and Al-Abdiliya solar and wind projects with a production capacity of 3,500 MW each.

Moro Hub and Emirates Group entered a partnership to relocate Emirates’ data center to a solar-powered data facility at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai. Moro Hub will provide co-location services, including rack space, power, cooling, and equipment supply. With this relocation, the Emirates Group aims to transition to clean energy, with an estimated annual capacity of approximately 3,000 MW, to power the data center.

EMSTEEL Group partnered with Yellow Door Energy to develop a 31.5 MW industrial rooftop solar project across 40 facilities in Abu Dhabi’s ICAD 1. Yellow Door will finance, build, own, and operate the project. The project is expected to generate 50 million kWh of clean energy. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.

The Port of Duqm Company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Oman Oil Marketing Company to co-develop solar energy systems, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and biofuels at the port. Reggy Vermeulen, CEO of Port of Duqm, said, “This MoU with Port of Duqm marks a key step in enabling the port to optimize energy use, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance sustainability.”
