Indian Space Research Organization Develops Solar Calculator App
April 25, 2017
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has developed an android application called the ‘Solar Calculator’, to calculate solar energy. This app will be utilized to select the locations for solar PV power projects.
The app has been developed by the Space Applications Centre (SAC), ISRO, Ahmedabad, at the request of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), according to a release. The app uses remote sensing observations from geostationary satellite sensors to capture space-time variability of surface insolation.
The app provides monthly and yearly solar potential and a minimum and maximum temperature at any location. It also displays the location on a satellite image along with elevation angles and the length of the day over different time periods in a year.
The app can be downloaded from New and Renewable Energy section at vedas.sac.gov.in.
