GACL will acquire 26% of the equity of Aditya Renewables’ wind-solar project
December 30, 2024
Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals (GACL) will procure 62.7 MW of power in a captive arrangement from Aditya Birla Renewables’ (AB Ren) wind-solar project in Gujarat.
The project is expected to be completed by next year.
GACL and Aditya Birla Renewables and its special purpose vehicle, Aditya Birla Renewables SPV 4, have signed a shareholder’s agreement to set up the captive power project.
The two companies have signed a power consumption agreement for 25 years.
GACL will acquire 26% of the equity capital of Aditya Birla Renewables SPV 4 in due course at a face value of ₹10 (~$0.117) each.
In its Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report for 2024, GACL said it had installed wind projects with a total capacity of 171.45 MW.
It has also installed a 35 MW solar power project to meet its power requirements and renewable purchase obligations. The company installed a 563 kW rooftop solar project at its Vadodara complex, and a 220 kW rooftop solar project and a 640 kW floating solar project at Dahej.
GACL has executed power purchase agreements with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam for the supply of power from a 50 MW solar project and with Tata Power from a 70 MW solar park.
The company is also in discussions with NTPC Renewable Energy and other developers to supply more than 100 MW of renewable power on a hybrid/round-the-clock basis.
It said it aims to increase renewable energy usage by about 40% to save energy costs. The company targets achieving 80% of green power usage in the next two to three years.
In the financial year 2024, GACL utilized 1.3 million joules of renewable energy compared to 1.5 million in the previous year.
In October, the metals flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, said its installed renewable energy capacity rose 60% in the financial year 2024 from the previous year’s 108 MW to 173 MW.
Another Aditya Birla Group company, UltraTech Cement, announced it would source renewable energy from CleanMax in captive mode.
