Germany-based HINT.CO (Hintco), H2Global’s trading arm, has announced the winner of the Asian lot for a long-term agreement to supply Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) ammonia to Germany.

AM Green Ammonia, an India-based developer of low-carbon ammonia projects, was selected as the sole winner.

Hintco will purchase renewable ammonia from AM Green for a minimum value of €585 million (~$663.75 million) over 10 years.

Hintco may also purchase additional volumes using proceeds generated from reselling the green ammonia in the European market.

AM Green was selected after a competitive bidding process, and its offer ranked first among the submissions received.

The ammonia will be produced at the second phase of the company’s Kakinada facility in Andhra Pradesh, where it is converting an existing natural gas-based ammonia and urea production complex into a facility that will use alkaline electrolysis technology. The facility is being designed to produce 1 million metric tons of ammonia per annum.

AM Green will supply electricity for the production process through its round-the-clock renewable power architecture, backed by pumped hydro storage, in line with European Union regulations.

The first deliveries of renewable ammonia are expected in 2029. The ammonia will be shipped from Kakinada seaports, located alongside AM Green’s production facility.

Markus Exenberger, Executive Director of the H2Global Foundation and Co-Founder of H2Global, said, “Repeated disruptions to fossil fuel supply chains have been felt worldwide. Renewable ammonia carries clean power across oceans to industries that cannot be fully electrified, with little or no carbon emissions.”

Hintco plans to publish the complete auction results before the end of 2026, along with results from other H2Global tenders covering Africa, North America, South America, and Oceania.

Promoted by the founders of Greenko Group, AM Green is developing low-carbon ammonia projects at multiple locations in India and has set a target of reaching a capacity of 5 million metric tons per annum of green ammonia.

AM Green is also developing production capabilities for e-methanol and biofuels, including sustainable aviation fuel.

In January this year, Germany-based global energy trading company Uniper Global Commodities signed a long-term binding offtake agreement with AM Green Ammonia to purchase 500,000 tons per annum of RFNBO-certified green ammonia.

Earlier, Norway-based ammonia trader and distributor Yara Clean Ammonia signed a term sheet with Greenko ZeroC, AM Green’s green ammonia production arm, for the long-term supply of up to 50% of renewable ammonia from the production facility in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.
