Construction and engineering company G R Infraprojects has been awarded a contract from PFC Consulting to establish an inter-state transmission system (ISTS) to integrate the Bijapur Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) in Karnataka.

The quoted transmission cost is ₹1.08 billion (~$12.73 million)/annum. G R Infraprojects must set up the transmission project on a build, own, operate, and transfer basis within 24 months.

The work involves establishing a 400/220 kV, five 500 MVA pooling station near Bijapur, the Bijapur PS – Raichur New 400 kV (Quad ACSR moose) D/c line, and  two125MVAr 420 kV bus reactors at Bijapur PS. G R Infraprojects must also obtain the transmission license.

The scope of work covers the establishment, operation, and maintenance of the project and the completion of all the project-related activities.

Out of the 17 GW identified REZs in Karnataka, the transmission system for Bijapur will cater to 2 GW of renewable energy potential. Bijapur REZ is being integrated with the existing Raichur New through Bijapur PS – Raichur New 400 kV (Quad ACSR moose) D/C line.  Approximately 1.4 GW of connectivity has been received, granted, or agreed to a grant at Bijapur PS.

In September, G R Infraprojects was handed the Tumkur-II REZ Power Transmission to evacuate 1.5 GW of power from the Tumkur REZ in Karnataka.

In June 2024, the government approved new ISTS programs amounting to ₹135.95 billion (~$1.63 billion) to evacuate 9 GW of renewable energy from Rajasthan and Karnataka.

PFC Consulting recently invited bids to select a transmission service provider to set up an inter-state transmission system at Ananthapur-II REZ Phase I in Andhra Pradesh to evacuate an additional 4.5 GW of renewable energy.

Earlier, PFC invited bids to evacuate 3 GW of renewable energy from Gujarat.
