Equis Energy to Develop a 1 GW Solar Project in Queensland, Australia

Equis Energy, a renewable energy IPP, will develop a 1 GW solar project in Queensland, Australia. The 1 GW project is called Wandoan South Solar Project and Western Downs Regional Council in Queensland, Australia, approved the development of the Solar Park by Equis Energy.

Equis Energy stated in a release, the Wandoan South Solar Project will involve a capital investment of approximately A$1.5 billion (~$1.2 billion). Land totaling 1,424 hectares has been allocated for the project. The company plans to commission the entire project within 18-20 months. Project development will begin in 2018 and power evacuation from the project will start in 2019.

Once complete, the Wandoan South Solar Project will incorporate up to 3 million solar PV panels and have a generation output of approximately 1,800,000 MWh/year. The project will supply power equivalent to the annual needs of 255,000 homes, and save over 1. 7 million tons of carbon emissions annually.

After receiving the approval to develop this 1 GW solar project, Equis Energy’s pipeline in Australia stands at 1,276 MW of solar.
