Solar module capacity under ALMM rises to 74.23 GW

NTPC Renewable Energy (NTPC REL), ReNew Solar Power, Fastnote Biofuels (Hindustan Power), and Adani Renewable Energy Holding Twelve declared winners in Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation’s (UPPCL) auction to set up 2 GW solar power projects. NTPC and ReNew won 1,000 MW and 300 MW, respectively, at a tariff of ₹2.56 (~$0.0299)/kWh.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy expanded the Approved List of Module Manufacturers’ (ALMM) capacity by adding 8,067 MW of solar module manufacturing capacity. Asote Solutions (Ananya Solar), MKU Holdings, and Axitec Energy India, contributing 152 MW, 1,183 MW, and 18 MW, respectively, are the new additions to the list, taking the total number of module manufacturers to 95.

Agrivoltaics, the integration of solar power generation with agriculture, is emerging as a game-changer for India’s energy and farming sectors. Agrivoltaics enables dual land use, helping farmers generate their own energy while continuing to grow crops. Indore-based renewable energy company Khare Energy offers customized agrivoltaic solutions tailored to the specific needs of farmers and the local environment. In an exclusive interview with Mercom India, Manish Khare, Managing Director of Khare Energy, spoke about agrivoltaics, the innovations driving it, and its potential impact on Indian farmers.

NTPC REL invited bids for the supply and installation of 271 wind turbine generators for an 813 MW interstate transmission system- connected power project in Bellary, Karnataka. Bids must be submitted by May 8, 2025. Bids will be opened on the same day. The project scope entails the designing, engineering, manufacturing, supplying, erecting, installing, testing, and commissioning of wind turbine generators with a minimum 3 MW rating.

NTPC REL invited bids for the Balance of System of a 900 MW grid-connected solar project in Fatehgarh, Rajasthan. Bids must be submitted by May 7, 2025. Bids will be opened on the same day. The scope of work encompasses the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, packing, forwarding, transportation, unloading, storage, installation, testing, and commissioning of solar projects. It excludes the supply of solar modules.

NTPC REL invited bids for the supply and installation of 224 wind turbine generators for a 672 MW wind power project in Solapur, Maharashtra. The last date to submit bids is May 7, 2025. Bids will be opened on the same day. The scope of work encompasses design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, installation, testing, and commissioning of 224 Revised List of Models and Manufacturers-listed wind turbine generators with a capacity of 3 MW each.

The Ministry of Power proposed amendments to refine the regulatory framework governing renewable energy consumption by designated consumers, including electricity distribution licensees, open access consumers, and captive users. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency will oversee the compliance and submit periodic reports to the government.

Government-owned lender Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency signed a loan facility with the State Bank of India Tokyo to raise JPY26 billion (~$172 million), including a greenshoe option of JPY10 billion (~$66.2 million) through external commercial borrowings. The fundraise will include a five-year unsecured facility with a bullet payment at maturity.
