India generated approximately 56.9 billion units of solar electricity in the third quarter (Q3) of 2026, up 48.6% year-over-year (YoY) from 38.3 billion units (BU), according to Central Electricity Authority data. However, generation declined 9.4% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) from 62.8 BU in Q2 2026. Monthly generation increased through the quarter, from 18.1 BU in July to 18.6 BU in August and 20.2 BU in September.
The Union Cabinet approved a ₹145 billion (~$1.53 billion) viability gap funding (VGF) program to support 92 GWh of grid-scale energy storage capacity between the financial years 2027 and 2031. The program will support 60 GWh of pumped storage, 30 GWh of battery storage, and 2 GWh of alternative energy storage technologies.
The Union Cabinet approved a ₹28.14 billion (~$297.06 million) capital expenditure support program to promote domestic processing of lithium, nickel, and other critical minerals. These minerals find use in sectors such as electric mobility, battery energy storage, electronics, defense, and specialty steel. The program will run for five years, from fiscal years 2026-27 to 2030-31, and will provide capital subsidies to establish four critical mineral processing plants.
The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission rejected a petition seeking to classify a 160 MW blended wind and solar power project in Karnataka as a wind generating station for calculating deviation settlement charges. The Commission ruled that the project, comprising 129.6 MW of wind capacity and 30.4 MW of solar capacity, must be treated as a wind-solar hybrid generating station, irrespective of the predominant share of wind capacity.
Clean energy solutions provider Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions reported revenue from operations of ₹7.28 billion (~$80.08 million) in Q2 of the financial year 2027, a 37% YoY increase from ₹5.31 billion (~$58.41 million).
Türkiye’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources awarded 785 MW of solar capacity across 11 projects under the Yenilenebilir Enerji Kaynak Alanları 2026 solar auctions. The projects are located across Denizli, Ankara, Konya, Kahramanmaraş, Malatya, Diyarbakır, Mardin, Batman, and Elazığ.
