Bondada Engineering, a Hyderabad-based infrastructure engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company, has secured a work order worth ₹1.08 billion (~$12.8 million) from the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA) for a large-scale solar streetlight initiative.

The project involves designing, supplying, installing, testing, and commissioning smart solar streetlight systems on existing electric poles across rural Bihar.

The contract also includes a five-year comprehensive maintenance contract and the implementation of remote monitoring systems, according to a regulatory filing by the company.

The contract must be executed within 18 months from the date of the agreement signing.

This project is part of the Mukhyamantri Gramin Solar Streetlight Yojana.

In March, Bondada Engineering secured an engineering, procurement, and construction contract from Singareni Collieries Company for a 67.5 MW solar power project in Telangana’s Mandamarri area. The company quoted a gross order value of ₹4.34 billion (~$52.20 million) to win the contract.

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to install rooftop solar systems in 10 million households by 2027, also promotes solar streetlights. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy issued operational guidelines to set up one model solar village in every district of the country under which public projects for solar-based streetlighting will also be supported with funding up to 100% of the project cost.

The model solar villages will be selected in a challenge mode, where villages compete based on the total distributed renewable energy capacity installed under PM Surya Ghar, and other programs like PM KUSUM for solarizing agricultural pumpsets.

In June, BREDA invited bids for the design, supply, testing, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of 10 MT solar cold storage units in Bihar.

Last December, BREDA invited bids to empanel bidders to connect non-functional off-grid solar power projects on government buildings to the grid.
