The Dhaka Electricity Supply Company (DESCO) has floated an expression of interest (EoI) to set up 120 MW on-grid solar power projects under the design-build-finance-operate and maintain model in Dhaka.

The last date to submit bids is May 4, 2025. Bids will be opened on the same day.

The project involves setting up 120 MW solar projects in eight lots in eight operational circles of DESCO. The project will utilize rooftops and urban spaces within DESCO’s jurisdiction for solar power generation.DESCO Tender

The projects must be integrated with DESCO’s distribution network through a net-metering system.

A single bidder can be awarded a maximum of three lots.

DESCO will purchase electricity from the developer at a rate less than the retail rate offered by the Bangladesh Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Bidders must sign a tri-party agreement between the landowner, developer, and DESCO.

They must carry out a feasibility study to identify potential consumer premises and focus on installations on putting up rooftop solar installations in hospitals, universities, colleges, schools, madrasas, railway platforms/tracks, industries, and commercial institutions.

Bidders must have experience developing at least 5 MW solar projects.

They must also have experience in synchronizing the generated electricity with DESCO’s distribution network while maintaining the local grid code.

The tender allows bidders to use energy storage systems for the project.

Bidders must demonstrate financial capability to undertake the project.

In January, the Bangladesh Power Development Board invited bids for installing solar power projects with a cumulative capacity of 1,780 MW at 19 locations in the country. Four projects will have a capacity of 70 MW each, and 15 projects will have a capacity of 100 MW each.

Last December, the Bangladesh Power Development Board floated 12 tenders to install a total of 353 MW grid-connected solar power projects.
