Avaada Group has inaugurated a 1.5 GW solar module manufacturing gigafactory in Dadri, Noida. It also laid the foundation for a 5 GW solar manufacturing unit at Ecotech, Greater Noida.

The company said its 1.5 GW manufacturing plant specializes in tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) N-Type bifacial glass-to-glass solar modules, incorporating multi-bus bar configurations (16 to 24 bus bars) to maximize efficiency.

The plant can produce M10 and G12 cells, with an annual capacity of 1.2 GW for M10 and 1.5 GW for G12 modules, and is currently producing 5,800 modules daily.

The company’s upcoming 5 GW facility specializing in TOPCon N-Type solar cells will span 50 acres.  The plant will certifications from organizations including the Bureau of Indian Standards, the International Electrotechnical Commission, and Underwriters Laboratories.

Avaada Group is targeting 11 GW of renewable energy by 2026. It raised over $1 billion from Brookfield’s Energy Transition Fund to support its green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in India.

Last year, the company closed a ₹5.97 billion (~$71 million) refinancing deal with NIIF Infrastructure Finance for its commercial and industrial solar projects in Karnataka and Maharashtra. The solar projects supply electricity to various companies, including Bharati Airtel, Motherson, Bharat Forge, STT, Nxtra Data, and Lumax.

On March 6, Avaada Energy won Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam’s auction to supply power from 250 MW grid-connected solar power projects anywhere in India with a greenshoe option of 250 MW.

India added 1.3 GW of solar modules and 2 GW of cell manufacturing capacity in the first half (1H) of 2024, according to Mercom India’s research report, State of Solar PV Manufacturing in India 1H 2024.
