149 MW of Solar Installed Under Off-Grid Program

March 17, 2017

Standalone solar projects aggregating 149 MW have been installed in India under the off-grid program.

The Ministry of Power is providing help to develop standalone solar power projects under off-grid and decentralized solar PV applications program throughout the country, stated Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister for Power, in the Lok Sabha.

Under the Deen Dayal Upadhaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY), standalone solar projects are being installed to provide electricity to the un-electrified villages/habitations and remote households in highly scattered locations where grid connectivity is not possible due to difficult terrain or forests.

To ensure the sustainability of these projects, it has been mandated that the developer who installs the system has to provide maintenance for five years. After five years, the systems are to be handed over to the state government.
