Waaree Energies has announced an expansion of its solar module manufacturing operations in the U.S. The company will set up an additional 1.6 GW capacity solar module manufacturing unit at its existing facility in Brookshire, Texas.

With this move, Waaree’s total manufacturing capacity in the U.S. will increase to 3.2 GW. The company’s Board of Directors has approved the expansion as a part of its broader strategic plan to strengthen its position in the American market.

The decision comes amid a global shift in the solar industry, where companies are adapting to supply chain diversification, localization of manufacturing, and increased demand for reliable and transparent partnerships.

Waaree Energies stated that the expansion aims to create long-term customer value and contribute to developing a domestic solar supply chain in the U.S.

The company said the expansion aligns with its strategy to derisk its global operations by strengthening its presence in key markets. It said the expansion is more than a capacity announcement. It reflects the company’s belief in the U.S. as the next engine of industrial revolution.

Waaree had earlier said that its U.S. operations are structured to be profitable on their merit. However, the Inflation Reduction Act or similar programs will provide significant additional benefits if they continue in some form.

Recently, Waaree Energie’s net profit for the third quarter of the financial year (FY) 2024-25 rose 260% to ₹5.07 billion (~$58.54 million) from ₹1.41 billion (~$16.28 million) a year ago. The company attributed the growth to expanding solar markets in India and abroad and the falling costs of solar power and batteries.

Earlier this year, Waaree entered into a share purchase agreement with Enel Green Power Development to acquire 100% of the share capital of Enel Green Power India for ₹7.92 billion (~$91.73 million). Enel owns a solar and wind projects portfolio totaling 640 MWac (760 MWdc), including operational and projects under development in the country.
