NHPC floated the largest wind tender with a 1.2 GW capacity
December 24, 2024
A total of 9.02 GW of wind energy tenders were floated by various agencies in 2024, according to Mercom India Research.
Below is an overview of the largest wind energy tenders floated during the year:
#1 The largest wind tender in 2024 was floated by NHPC to develop 1.2 GW interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind power projects (Tranche II). The tender specified that power injection must be made at ISTS substations in six states: Tamil Nadu (500 MW), Andhra Pradesh (250 MW), Maharashtra (200 MW), Telangana (100 MW), Madhya Pradesh (100 MW), and Karnataka (50 MW).
#2 The second largest tender was floated by SJVN to procure 600 MW of power from ISTS-connected wind projects in India on a build-own-operate basis. Wind projects already under construction or yet to be commissioned, or commissioned but selling wind power on a short-term merchant basis, were also considered under this tender.
#3 The third largest tender was floated by Adani Electricity Mumbai (AEML) to develop 600 MW of power from grid-connected wind projects anywhere in India. The selected developers were required to establish wind power projects on a build-own-operate basis. Land, connectivity, and long-term access were in the scope of the project developer.
#4 The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) floated the fourth largest tender to develop 500 MW ISTS-connected projects under Tranche-XVII. The developers had to identify the land, install and own the project, obtain connectivity and necessary approvals, and interconnect with the ISTS network, STU, or InSTS network.
#5 The fifth largest tender was floated by SECI to develop 500 MW ISTS-connected offshore wind power projects (Tranche-I). The project involves identifying land for onshore manufacturing, storage, and assembly of wind turbine components and wind turbines and other associated parts. The winning bidders must secure approvals, conduct seabed surveys to validate available data sets, and advance the project to financial closure.
