The top eight inverter manufacturers account for 96 percent of solar inverter market in India, led by ABB with 22 percent, followed by SMA Solar with 18 percent.

To date, ABB has supplied inverters of cumulative 3,000 MW, SMA of 2,400 MW, CHINT of 2,000 MW, TMEIC and Schneider Electric of 1,500 MW each.

According to Mercom’s India Solar Project Tracker, as of December 2016, cumulative solar installations including rooftop have reached 9.6 GW, solar projects under development pipeline now total approximately 14.2 GW with 6.3 GW of tenders waiting to be auctioned. India will be a top solar market for years to come and we expect competition to heat up and expect Chinese inverter manufacturers to start making inroads into the Indian market.
