The Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TSNPDCL) and Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TSSPDCL) have petitioned the Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) to set an additional surcharge to be levied on open access consumers for financial year (FY) 2017-18. The TSNPDCL and TSSPDCL have proposed an additional surcharge of ₹1.95 (~$0.03)/kVAh.

Both the distribution companies (DISCOMs) are committed to promote open access consumption but are also obligated to ensure that they can recover the fixed costs to avoid negatively impacting other customers.

Not being able to recover fixed costs would hinder the DISCOM in carrying out the necessary investments for supplying quality and reliable power to consumers.

The TSERC has asked stakeholders and interested parties to provide comments, objections, and suggestions on the proposal of the DISCOMs maximum by September 6, 2017.
