Teerth Gopicon and Reliance Win SJVN’s 5.8 MW Rooftop Solar Auction
The rooftop solar projects would be installed on government buildings
January 7, 2025
Teerth Gopicon and Reliance Industries have won SJVN’s tender to develop 5,830 kW grid-connected solar projects under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
Teerth Gopicon won 5,705 kW capacity, and Reliance Industries won 125 kW.
The tender was floated in December 2024.
These projects would be installed on union government buildings across several states, including Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.
Both winners will work under the renewable energy service company model.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has designated SJVN as one of the program implementation partners to help install grid-connected rooftop solar projects on government buildings and assets.
It plans to solarize government buildings associated with the ministries of Commerce and Industry and Chemicals and Fertilizers and the departments of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
In July 2024, MNRE announced plans to install rooftop solar systems on all central and state government buildings by December 2025 as part of the recently approved PM Surya Ghar program.
Under this program, central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) experienced in renewable energy will assist the union ministries in deploying rooftop solar systems on their assets. However, CPSEs cannot avail of any central financial assistance.
Such projects can avail of fiscal incentives such as accelerated depreciation, concessional customs and excise duties, tax holidays, and other benefits available for rooftop solar projects.
India added 1.9 GW of rooftop solar capacity in the first nine months of 2024. Installations rose almost 45% year-over-year compared to the 1.3 GW installed in 9M 2023, according to Mercom India’s Q3 2024 India Rooftop Solar Market Report. Installations in the third quarter and 9M 2024 were primarily driven by the PM Surya Ghar program, contributing nearly 85% of the installations in the residential segment during the quarter.
