Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL) has commissioned a 300 MW solar power project for NHPC at Karnisar Bhatiyan in Bikaner, Rajasthan.
The project comprises approximately 775,000 solar modules spread across the desert terrain, supported by precision ramming structures and inverters designed to withstand Rajasthan’s extreme temperatures.
The projects used domestic content requirement (DCR)-compliant solar cells and bifacial modules supplied by TP Solar’s manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli.
The power generated from the project will be supplied to the Punjab State Power Corporation. Over its operational lifetime, the project is expected to produce 17,230 million units of electricity.
The company highlighted that, in addition to the NHPC project, it is also supplying DCR-compliant modules for SJVN’s 1 GW project and NLC’s 300 MW project, both under development in Rajasthan.
With the new commissioning, TPREL’s renewable energy capacity has reached 11.6 GW, with 5.8 GW operational. This includes 4.7 GW solar and 1.1 GW wind. Another 5.8 GW is under various stages of implementation, slated for phased completion over the next 6–24 months.
TPREL has delivered more than 4.9 GW of third-party projects to date, with nearly 980 MW added in the current financial year alone.
The company was one of the winners of Tata Power Company’s auction to supply 250 MW of firm and dispatchable renewable energy from projects integrated with energy storage systems on a build-own-operate basis. Tata Power Renewable Energy secured the largest share, 80 MW, at a tariff of ₹4.77/kWh (~$0.0548).
In February this year, TPREL emerged as one of the winners of SJVN’s auction to develop 1,200 MW ISTS-connected projects to supply firm and dispatchable renewable energy, by securing 88 MW at a quoted tariff of ₹4.91 (~$0.0562)/kWh.
India added 26.6 GW of solar capacity in the first nine months (9M) of calendar year 2025, an increase of 53.7% year-over-year from 17.3 GW, according to the newly released Q3 2025 India Solar Market Update Report by Mercom India Research. Large-scale solar accounted for 81.5% of the capacity commissioned in 9M 2025.
