The project has secured energy offtake agreements with C&I businesses

SunSource Energy, a subsidiary of SHV Energy, announced the commissioning of a 21 MW solar power project in Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu.
The 50-acre project, which marks the company’s entry into the state, is expected to generate 760 million kW of clean energy and offset 700 million kg of CO2 emissions during its technical lifetime.
SunSource Energy has already secured partnerships with leading commercial and industrial (C&I) businesses for the offtake of the 21 MW capacity.
Santanu Guha, CEO of SunSource Energy, said, “We are pleased to commission our first plant in Tamil Nadu, one of India’s leading states for renewable energy. With Tamil Nadu playing host to various industries, including automobile, IT&ITES, textiles, manufacturing, etc, this project is just the beginning for us in the state. We foresee planning several new projects for C&I customers and helping them in their energy transition journey.”
Ajay Sanghi, CEO of SUPERGAS, a project partner, said, “By partnering with SunSource Energy to procure solar power for our Tuticorin Terminal, we not only reduce carbon emissions at the terminal – but equally as important – increase cost efficiencies. This ensures we can continue to provide affordable, cleaner energy access to consumers and businesses and help drive the energy transition.”
Businesses in the C&I segment are increasingly veering towards renewable energy procurement through captive, group captive, and open access agreements with developers to reap economic and environmental benefits.
Mercom India has been bringing clean energy solution providers and consumers together to discuss power requirements, cost benefits, challenges, opportunities, and solutions at C&I Clean Energy Meet 2024 series. The next event is scheduled for September 20 in Pune.
Recently, SunSource delivered comprehensive renewable energy solutions, including engineering, procurement, and construction services, for the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s first grid-connected solar power project in Lakshadweep. This 1.7 MW solar power project on Kavaratti Island also features a 1.4 MWh battery energy storage system.
SunSource Energy won the award for Best Standalone Storage Project category in the fourth annual Mercom India Awards for the Lakshadweep project.
