Strengthening Domestic Manufacturing for India’s Renewable Energy Push
The 'Mercom India Renewables Summit 2024' will be held in New Delhi on July 25-26
July 17, 2024
India is striving to boost domestic manufacturing for renewable energy projects and strengthen local supply chains to meet its clean energy targets.
Initiatives such as production-linked incentive programs aim to promote local industries while shielding them from cheaper imports by imposing higher customs duties and implementing non-tariff barriers like the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers. These measures are designed to foster a vibrant domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem.
As global efforts increasingly focus on localizing supply chains and domestic manufacturing of critical products, India has adjusted its stance on several issues to enhance energy security.
However, the government’s policy changes and financial support can only be fully effective if the industry overcomes challenges arising from skill deficit, access to affordable capital, raw materials, and competition from international manufacturers.
For sustained success in local manufacturing, private and public stakeholders must develop a robust research and development infrastructure to foster innovation and support a startup ecosystem for the solar and wind energy sector.
The upcoming ‘Mercom India Renewables Summit 2024,’ scheduled for July 25-26 in New Delhi, will address these critical issues. One of the key sessions, titled ‘The Rise of Domestic Manufacturing: Strategies to Meet Growing Demand,’ will take place on July 25, 2024.
The session will feature Dinesh Dayanand Jagdale, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy; Prashant Mathur, CEO of Saatvik Solar; Manjunath Reddy, Founder & Managing Director of Dhash PV Technologies; and Anand Kumar, Head – Supply Chain Management at Emmvee Group.
Priya Sanjay, Managing Director, Mercom India, will moderate the session.
The panel will explore whether local supply chains are expanding quickly enough to meet the growing demand, assess the effectiveness of government programs promoting localization, and evaluate if current industrial policies and investments are adequate for driving expansion.
Mercom will also hold its fourth annual Mercom India Awards at the Summit, recognizing the exceptional achievement and technological innovations by companies contributing to India’s clean energy industry.
The event will also feature the second edition of the Startup Pitch Competition, which will provide the stage for Indian entrepreneurs and companies to present their innovative cleantech ideas or technologies in early-stage development.
Register now to attend this pivotal event and be part of shaping the future of India’s renewable energy landscape.
