Speaking on the sidelines of the Mercom India Renewables Summit 2026, held in New Delhi on July 1 and 2, Amit Barve, Chief Executive Officer at Rayzon Solar, said India’s manufacturing challenge extends beyond the mismatch between solar cell and module capacity. Even if domestic cell production catches up, annual demand is unlikely to absorb the planned manufacturing capacity. He said the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy expects annual installations to remain around 50 GW to 60 GW over the next two years because of transmission infrastructure constraints and delays in grid connectivity. He added that additional manufacturing capacity could remain underutilized, while export opportunities outside the U.S. remain limited because of competition from Chinese manufacturers.
