The Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) has electrified 13,04,63,046 rural households, so far. There were 17,75,90,317 unelectrified rural households, but the REC has achieved close to two-thirds of the target.

About 27 percent or 4,71,27,271 rural households remain to be electrified, per garv dashboard. We are bringing power to an average of about 20 to 25 thousand electrified households per week, stated an official at REC. We are on track for 100 percent village electrification by May 2018, added the REC official.

To bring electricity to each and every household in India we are working at a war footing. If all goes according to plan, we will average 1,00,000 electrified households a week from the new financial year, added the REC official.

The REC has also electrified 12,673 villages. Mercom previously reported, the REC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government of Jharkhand worth Rs.151.5 billion (~$2.25 billion) to connect the entire state to the grid.
