Renewables Business Drives Tata Power’s Q2 Net Profit Up 14% YoY

The company plans to set up a 10 GW solar cell and ingot manufacturing plant

Integrated power company, Tata Power, reported a revenue of ₹157.69 billion (~$1.78 billion) in the second quarter (Q2) of the financial year (FY) 2026, a 3% year-over-year (YoY) increase from ₹152.47 billion (~$1.72 billion).

The company’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) grew 6% YoY to ₹40.32 billion (~$454.88 million) from ₹38.08 billion (~$429.60 million).

Profit after tax (PAT) came in at ₹12.45 billion (~$140.45 million), a 14% increase from ₹10.93 billion (~$123.29 million) in the same quarter of the previous year.

The renewables business continued to drive Tata Power’s performance. Revenue from the renewables segment increased by 89% YoY to ₹36.13 billion (~$407.57 million). Segment EBITDA increased 57% YoY to ₹15.75 billion (~$177.67 million). PAT from the renewables segment rose 70% YoY to ₹5.11 billion (~$57.65 million).

Solar cell and module manufacturing achieved an output of 928 MW of cells and 970 MW, respectively, in Q2 FY26. Dispatches of domestically manufactured DCR modules touched 809 MW in the quarter, the highest ever for a single quarter.

During the earnings call, Praveer Sinha, CEO of Tata Power, stated that the company plans to establish a 10 GW solar wafer and ingot manufacturing plant. “We already have 4.55 GW of cell and module capacity. We expect the government to introduce a PLI to support such investments, given the large national demand and current limited capacity,” he said.

1H FY 2026

Tata Power’s revenue increased 4% YoY to ₹332.33 billion (~$3.74 billion) in the first half (1H) of FY 2026.

Its EBITDA for the period also rose by 11% to ₹79.61 billion (~$898.12 million).

PAT increased by 10% to ₹25.08 billion (~$282.94 million).

Total utility-scale renewable capacity stands at 5.7 GW, comprising 4.7 GW of solar and 1 GW of wind. During Q2, the company commissioned 293 MW of renewable projects, including 111 MW of its own projects and 182 MW of third-party engineering, procurement, and construction work.

The rooftop solar business installed 370 MW during the quarter. The business continues to grow with more than 270,000 installations and cumulative capacity exceeding 3.8 GW.

In transmission, Tata Power is advancing six projects totalling more than 2,400 circuit kilometres. The company is on track to surpass an operational capacity of 7,000 circuit kilometres by FY28.

He said the company will expand further with 10 GW of clean energy capacity under construction, including a healthy pipeline of 5 GW hybrid and FDRE projects.”

The company reported revenue of ₹174.64 billion (~$1.99 billion) in the first quarter (Q1) of FY26, up by 4% YoY.

Tata Power Solar was one of the top utility-scale solar engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) service providers in 2024, according to Mercom’s India Solar Market Leaderboard 2025 Report.
