Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a slew of renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 2,458 MW across the country.

The projects for which the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone include Avaada’s 1,560 MW solar plus 2,500 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project at Pugal, Rajasthan.

He also inaugurated Avaada’s 200 MW solar power project at Shri Dungargarh, Bikaner, also in Rajasthan.

The 200 MW solar project, spanning 777 acres, will supply power to Rajasthan DISCOMs.

The 1,560 MW solar plus 2,500 MWh BESS project spans 4,000 acres. The project will enable the delivery of solar power beyond solar hours by storing it in a battery energy storage system (BESS).

Both projects utilize Avaada Electro’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers-certified TOPCon N-Type bifacial solar modules.

Together, these two projects represent a combined investment of more than ₹92 billion (~$1.04 billion).

Avaada has already commissioned 2.2 GW of renewable capacity in Rajasthan. The company’s operational portfolio stands at approximately 5.7 GWp across India.

Sunstream’s 140 MW Solar Project

Modi also inaugurated Sunstream Green Energy’s 140 MW solar project in Maharashtra.

Sunstream also announced plans to develop a 1 GW portfolio of operating renewable energy assets within the next 18 to 24 months. This vision builds on Sunstream’s 500 MW project portfolio, comprising 250 MW of operational capacity and 250 MW under execution.

India added solar projects totaling 18 GW in the first half (1H) of 2025, a 31% year-over-year (YoY) increase from the same period last year, according to Mercom India Research’s Q2 2025 India Solar Market Update.

Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra led in large-scale solar capacity additions for the quarter, accounting for 33.7%, 27%, and 17.4% of installations, respectively.

As of June 2025, India’s cumulative installed solar capacity stood at 116.4 GW.

Large-scale projects accounted for nearly 86%, and rooftop solar accounted for almost 14% of the cumulative installations. Solar projects accounted for 24% of India’s total installed power capacity and over 49% of the total installed renewable energy capacity as of the end of June 2025.
