Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) has received letters of intent for three transmission projects from REC Power Development and Consultancy (RECPDCL) under tariff-based competitive bidding cumulatively worth ₹107.5 billion (~$1.2 billion).

The three projects are a transmission system for power evacuation from the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Ph-V, an augmentation of transformation capacity at Banaskantha, Gujarat, and another transmission system project for integration of Kurnool-IV REZ Phase-I in Andhra Pradesh.

The tender for the REZ Phase-V project to evacuate 4 GW of renewable energy was issued in September 2024.

Apart from POWERGRID, Resonia (Sterlite Power), and Adani Green Energy Solutions had also qualified for the Rajasthan tender. .

The tender had mandated the selected bidders to design, construct, and test the project’s equipment, facilities, components, and systems per the transmission service agreement and  rules, regulations, orders, and guidelines.

They must formulate a detailed report, arrange finance, conduct project management, and design, engineer, erect, test, and commission the project.

The tender for the Gujarat project to establish an ISTS to augment transformation capacity was floated in October last year.

The qualified bidders for the tender were POWERGRID and KCC Buildcom.

The tender had mandated the selected bidders to augment the existing power substation at Banaskantha (Raghanesda) with 2×500 MVA, 400/220 kV ICTs to evacuate 700 MW of renewable energy from the Gujarat Power Corporation’s Raghanesda Ultra Mega Solar Power Park.

The scope of work entails installing 2×500 MVA, 400/220 kV ICTs (3rd and 4th) line to accommodate 300 MW beyond 950 MW at Banaskantha (Raghanesda) PS (GIS).

The third project won by POWERGRID entailed establishing an ISTS to evacuate 4.5 GW of power from the Kurnool-IV Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Phase-I.

The tender was floated in October 2024. Resonia, Adani Green Solutions, Megha Engineering & Infrastructure, and Tata Power Company were the other qualified bidders.

The tender had mandated the selected bidders to establish, operate, and maintain the project on a build, own, operate, and transfer basis. They must also formulate a detailed project report, arrange finance, manage the project, and secure consents, clearances, and permits.

Recently, POWERGRID invited bulk contract bids to supply and install 7 MW of rooftop solar systems on its buildings in northern and western regions under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
